Check Out Anna Dirain Burson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Dirain Burson.

Anna Dirain Burson

Hi Anna, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Originally from Lal-lo, Philippines, I am a self-taught artist who was inspired by her eldest sister (Vivian). I started drawing as a teenager in high school by helping my mother design clothes. Growing up, I have always dreamt of becoming a fashion designer. In college, I moved to my sister’s apartment in Manila and that is when my love and passion for painting began. During this time, I would attempt to duplicate my sister’s artwork. I truly idolize my sister so much that even my signature was influenced by hers (LOL).

After college, I stopped painting so I could focus on my career path and help my family with finances. When Covid came, I made the brave decision to give up my career to become a full-time artist and began to accept commissions. Some of my artwork is on display in my hometown of Lal-lo, Philippines where I was commissioned to complete a portrait for our town mayor and, also, painted a 4.5 x 5.5 ft. “Life of Jesus” painting that is beautifully displayed in our hometown church. I was chosen to be a juror for a local art contest in my hometown and loved to view different pieces and methods used.

During all of this, I met my future husband. In March of 2023, I moved to Clarksville, Tennessee, married the love of my life and started a new life with him. After moving here, I realized that I wanted to continue with my passion for art and this inspired me to join a juried art show. After being juried, I received a call from the gallery that I was one of the chosen artists to become a member of the Downtown Artist Co-op in Clarksville.

I became so passionate about bringing smiles to my clients during this time. Most of all, I love nature and animals because it is full of unexpected wonders that I use as inspiration. This is where my imagination runs wild and I get ideas for my creations. I, also, enjoy looking at other artists’ work and become energized and motivated to achieve better artwork for myself. I love to see others stimulated and smiling because of my work and hope that it will inspire more people to become artists. I am dedicated and always put forth my best in every art piece that I complete.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has not been smooth without hurdles.

After getting through Covid, I have personally been challenged with moving from the Philippines and overcoming the cultural differences that go along with that. It has been difficult being away from my huge family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
The mediums I use are acrylic, oil, and pencils. Since becoming a member of the DAC, I have been influenced by all of the amazing art.

My newest challenge is learning how to use watercolor. I specialize in painting portraits (family/pets) and finding beauty in nature to create scenery and lifelike paintings of animals. I believe I am known for my attention to detail and I am proud to display my artwork to others.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you, or support you?
I believe that art is something that should be shared with others.

I would love people to visit the Downtown Artist Co-op in Clarksville to view all the artists’ work. In addition to the DAC, most of us have websites that people can visit to view our work.
