Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Evelyn.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always had a love for music since I was young. I started by singing in a choir and playing the piano, but my true passion was percussion.
I studied percussion at Lehigh Valley Charter High School for the Arts, and in my junior year, I was introduced to audio and video production. This was a turning point for me as I discovered my love for audio engineering and the combination of technology and music. I pursued a degree in audio engineering and international business at Belmont University to work in live production, but unfortunately, the industry was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic.
One of my professors recommended me for a job at YoCo 96.7FM, a new radio station that had just partnered with Twitch. I was hired as a tech but quickly promoted to producer and program director. I was in charge of creating radio and TV shows covering all genres and discovering new artists to showcase. I later became a host for a hip-hop/R&B show called Country Sliq with KO McCoy and DJ Lando.
While working in radio, I was fortunate enough to come across some wonderful hidden gems in Nashville. After managing numerous artists’ projects in my capacity as a creative director and project manager, I decided to embark upon a career in artist management. During a session with an artist in Atlanta, I was given the nickname “Big Al,” and though I initially disliked it, it eventually grew on me. I decided to embrace it and named my company Big Al Management, LLC. My goal with Big Al Management is to let the music be the focus and guide while giving the artist back their voice. I see too many people speaking on behalf of artists about what they should look like or sing about, and who they should be as an artist and it is completely degrading.
As a manager, I know what my artists’ talents and dreams are but I also know who they are as people. I care about their art just as much as I care about them as a person. I am excited to bring my passion and experience to support genre-bending creators who are pushing the boundaries. I look forward to placing power into the creatives’ hands while providing innovative tools and guidance for long-term careers.
We’ve been impressed with Big AL Management, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Big Al Management is a full-service artist management and development company designed to empower artists and redefine the future of music.
We currently represent Ysa, Camille Parker, and ReedBeatz. We are known for representing innovative songwriters, producers, and artists with respect, passion, and perseverance.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting?
Always keep an open mind and be ready to learn and grow, even if you make mistakes or fail. I highly recommend finding a mentor who you respect and who can guide you on your journey.
Never be afraid to ask for help when you need it but most importantly just be a kind person and work hard.
