Meet Jared Matthews

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Jared Matthews.

Jared Matthews

Hi Jared, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started working in restaurants when I was 15 years old. I went to college in the UK for journalism, where I continued to work in restaurants and music halls. In my free time, I attended concerts. I never thought my love for music and my love for the service industry would turn into my career. In my mid-20s, I decided to start booking local bands at the venue I was managing. We grew that business and decided to open up a 1,000-capacity music venue where I got into promoting and booking major national acts.

We booked artists such as Method Man, Three Days Grace, Rusted Root, Jelly Roll, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Brett Michaels, and many more. It was a great time of my life! In my mid-30s, I decided to branch off and pursue my passion for the culinary world. I purchased one of my favorite restaurants in town, Cafe Lou Lou, from a busy of mine, Clay Wallace.

I gave it a lift and tweaked the menu a bit. Seven years later, I now have five restaurants: Lou Lou Food + Drink (Italian/Cajun), Lou Lou on Market (Italian/Cajun), Black Rabbit (Speakeasy), Osteria (Italian Seafood), and Fox Den (Sports Bar/Music Venue). To say, I am living my dream would be an understatement.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Lots of stumbles. Covid, staff issues, and countless other obstacles.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Most of my employees are lifelong friends. My employees are not just employees. They are family.

What makes you happy?
Serving people. I want to be more Christ-like everyday. There is nothing more Christ like in my opinion, than serving other people.
