Conversations with Anders Swanson

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Anders Swanson.

Anders Swanson

Hi Anders, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
For as long as I tried to dismiss or ignore the idea of a career in music, I knew in the back of my mind it was what I was always meant to do.

I was about a year away from starting medical school when I realized what I’d been working towards for nearly five years wasn’t my true passion. As difficult and frustrating as it was to start all over again at 23, it quickly became the best decision I’d ever made for myself.

Now, almost a year into building a career in the music industry, I wouldn’t trade it for anything else, and I absolutely love what I do every day.

Let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Working in music is far from an easy road to take, but it’s also the most rewarding work I’ve ever done.

I think the biggest struggle has been the adjustment from having the next 10-15 years of med school/residency laid out for me to have almost no blueprint at all to follow as a musician.

I’ve learned that in music, everything unfolds inconsistently, making it difficult to know when/how well everything will work out at any given time.

Despite that, there have always been small wins keeping me motivated through all the setbacks, and I’ve grown so much as a creative since I started my professional music journey.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
My main focus right now is on music production and songwriting. The goal right now is to build my following as an artist while developing a full-time income through sync licensing (getting paid to have your music in TV/film/ads).

I’ve been learning how to craft music that’s enjoyable to listen to on its own while also having the ability to enhance a visual story or a product. Aside from my production work, I play a variety of instruments and plan on gigging around Nashville as a drummer and vocalist.

I would also love to learn more about the music business, but I may end up going back to school for a master’s program. It would be a dream come true to start my own record label and help artists achieve their goals + get the recognition they deserve.

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
I’m still totally undecided on what genre/style my music should fall under. I have so many different influences (jazz, EDM, blues, rock, folk, etc.) that it can be tough to decide what my writing should sound like the most.

For now, I’m just trying many ideas out and seeing what sounds the most authentic. I always try to make sure the writing is the best quality I can produce, no matter what it might sound stylistically.
