Today, we’d like to introduce you to Julie Riemenschneider.
Hi Julie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
You see, for years, I was battling this relentless illness that seemed to have no name, no cure. It was like living in a fog of symptoms (37 to be exact), constantly searching for answers. I felt like I was running on empty, mentally and physically drained. I didn’t understand why my body was failing me and why I couldn’t get answers from the medical professionals who were supposed to have them (frustrating times a million).
Then, one day, a chance encounter with someone I knew through our shared love for vintage things changed everything. She noticed something wasn’t right and opened up about her health journey, which sounded eerily similar to mine. That’s when I stumbled upon the term “Breast Implant Illness” and dove headfirst into research. It was like a lightbulb moment—I knew I had to take action. After consulting with a surgeon, I made the life-changing decision to undergo surgery.
And though the road to recovery was tough, I emerged stronger, determined to reclaim my life.
Months later, I stumbled upon a Pilates studio in town. Despite feeling at my weakest, I decided to give it a try. And that first session on the Pilates reformer? It was transformative. I cried tears of relief and joy because, for once, I felt like I had succeeded in something.
That moment sparked a fire within me. I knew I had to share this gift of Pilates with others. So, I leaped, quitting my job to pursue teaching Pilates full-time (doesn’t everyone do something once, quit their job, and make it their life mission???). I immersed myself in training, soaking up every bit of knowledge and experience.
And then fate intervened once again—the owner of the SAME studio approached me about selling, and without hesitation, I seized the opportunity. I became the proud owner of my own Pilates studio, a dream I never imagined possible during my darkest days of illness.
It’s been a journey filled with challenges and learning curves, but every moment is worth it. Because now, I have the privilege of helping others discover the strength and healing power of Pilates.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh, let me tell you, it was far from a smooth road! Venturing into the world of business ownership was a whole new ballgame for me. Sure, I had a deep passion for Pilates and wellness, but navigating the ins and outs of running a studio? That was uncharted territory. Thankfully, I wasn’t alone on this journey.
I was surrounded by an incredible support network of people who lent their expertise, answered my countless questions, and walked me through the process step by step. Their guidance was invaluable and gave me the confidence to keep pushing forward, even when the road got bumpy. But let’s be real, there were bumps—lots of them. I made my fair share of mistakes along the way, and there were moments when it felt like the challenges were stacking up against me. I even encountered situations where people took advantage of my newfound venture.
Yet, through it all, my passion for what I was building never wavered. I refused to let setbacks define me or dim my enthusiasm. Instead, I chose to see each mistake as a valuable lesson—a chance to learn and grow. And you know what? Those experiences have shaped me into a stronger, more resilient business owner.
Now, I see it as my duty to pay it forward. By sharing my journey and the lessons I’ve learned, I hope to support and empower other new business owners who may be facing similar struggles. After all, we’re all in this together, and there’s strength in our collective experiences.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
Well, let me introduce you to our little haven of wellness here in Gallatin—the only boutique fitness spot in town! We’re not just a gym; we’re a community, a sanctuary where people come to transform their bodies and minds.
At our studio, we offer a variety of classes and private sessions, catering to everyone from beginners to seasoned fitness enthusiasts. Whether you’re into Barre, Pilates, yoga, or crave something more, we’ve got you covered—all under one roof, all with one membership. But what truly sets us apart is our vibe. We’re all about being serious about fitness while having an absolute blast. We infuse our classes with energy, enthusiasm, and, yes, a healthy dose of puns! (In fact, if you join our email list, you’ll find I’m a very punny person). Because why not have fun while you’re breaking a sweat, right?
What I’m most proud of brand-wise is our commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone feels empowered to reach their goals. A lot of people describe us as the “Cheers” of fitness: it’s a place where everyone knows your name. It’s not just about the workouts; it’s about the connections we make and the transformations we witness every day.
So, to your readers, I want you to know that when you walk through our doors, you’re not just joining a fitness studio. You’re joining a family, a support system that’s dedicated to helping you become the best version of yourself. Whether you’re here to tone up, de-stress, or simply have some fun, we’ve got everything you need to make your fitness journey a success.
Being a Gallatin native, I understand the importance of making fitness accessible to everyone in our community. That’s why I’ve made sure that our pricing is not only competitive but also a lot more affordable compared to other Pilates studios out there. It’s all about providing a pathway for every woman (and man) who needs to reclaim a piece of themselves through fitness and wellness.
But Dive Barre & Pilates isn’t just about workouts; it’s about connections and collaborations. I’m all about partnering with fellow business owners to promote each other’s businesses and messages.
We’ve hosted a range of events, from paid business seminars to happy hours, children’s yoga sessions, nutritional health workshops, IV therapy sessions, and more. As long as it fits with our vibe of working, sweating, breathing, getting stronger, connecting, and having fun, then they’re my kind of people. And speaking of vibe, that’s what truly sets us apart. We embrace imperfections and inconsistencies because they’re what make us real and relatable.
Are we perfect? No. But the charm is found in the imperfections and inconsistencies in our space and in ourselves. Come as you are…unpolished, unafraid, and unapologetic. So, meet me at the barre and sweat local. We are Dive Barre.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Ah, you’re taking me down memory lane now! You know, when I think back to my childhood, there are so many precious memories tucked away.
But if I had to pick just one, it would have to be those evenings spent in our very 80s den, Sweatin’ to the Oldies, with none other than Richard Simmons, alongside my mom. Now, I wasn’t exactly the picture of fitness enthusiasm back then—I was more into cartoons and snacks—but there was something magical about those moments. The vibrant outfits, the catchy tunes, and Richard’s infectious energy filled the room with positivity and laughter.
We’d clear a space in front of the TV, throw on those neon leg warmers, and just let loose, dancing and sweating like nobody was watching. It wasn’t about burning calories or getting in shape; it was about pure joy and connection with my mom. Looking back, I realize those evenings were more than just fun workouts—they were bonding experiences that helped shape my love for movement and wellness later in life. So, even though I may not have been into fitness as a kid, those memories of Sweatin’ to the Oldies will always hold a special place in my heart.
