Daily Inspiration: Meet Scotty Chapman

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Scotty Chapman.

Hi Scotty, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I, Scotty Chapman, moved to Nashville from Indiana a few years ago, looking to find players to start a band. After meeting local players and landing a couple of gigs in the Nashville music circuits, I invited an old hometown friend, Jeff Lageveen, to play drums.

The two became friends with guitarist Prince Parker, and Prince joined the Garden in 2022. We’ve been playing countless gigs together all over the country, meeting new fans and connections, and we are working on some recordings to release and grow our independent adventure.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not, haha. Like anything in life, we go through roller coasters. Struggles include losing gigs, bars closing down, our road van breaking down during weekend runs, breaking equipment, bandmates leaving the band, and having to train and find new players.

We always find a way to move forward and keep the train rolling despite everything, and when we’re onstage playing a great show, none of it matters.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the guitarist and singer of the group, and I specialize in songwriting and booking/managing the band. I’m most proud of the fact that I moved to Nashville to play music and for the last 4 years it has been my and my mate’s full-time income.

I set myself apart by being consistent and working hard. It’s easy to stop and give up; simply staying consistent at one thing can be better than being the most talented or knowledgeable.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some changes you expect to see over the next five to ten years?
The music industry changes all the time and is faster than ever now. Keeping up with the new trends and methods can be daunting sometimes. I try to stay up to date on what other artists are doing to stay successful.
