Today we’d like to introduce you to Teresa Flenory.
Hi Teresa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
In 2009, I bought my first home, sparking my interest in real estate. Intrigued by the process, I scouted online and found a home in the Lenox Village area. Working with an agent, I explored the area until I found my new construction townhome. The sense of accomplishment at the closing table was unforgettable.
Over time, I monitored the housing market, witnessing the growth in my area. This led me to pursue a real estate career, becoming a part-time agent in 2013 after passing my test. Despite uncertainties due to the recent housing market crash, I persevered and closed my first deal the following year.
Each client interaction has been a learning opportunity, with every transaction presenting unique challenges. Transitioning to a full-time agent at William Wilson Homes, and being a native Nashvillian, I eagerly anticipate the future of real estate in the Nashville area.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I first entered the industry, one of my main challenges was generating leads. As a new agent, it’s tough for people to trust you with such a significant decision. I persisted in reaching out to my network and eventually secured my first client. After about six months of house hunting, we finally found “the one.” I skillfully handled drafting and negotiating the contract, and we were thrilled to close the deal.
Fortunately, I had a patient seller’s agent who supported me throughout the process. Another hurdle I encountered was the changing economy. Despite recovering from previous recessions, there were still job losses and an increase in foreclosures. This led to a surplus of inventory, making it challenging for buyers to commit to making offers. Fast forward to today, the housing market has drastically transformed.
Housing prices have surged, benefiting existing buyers with increased equity, but presenting new buyers with higher costs, limited inventory, and elevated interest rates. Despite these obstacles, with the right guidance, both buyers and sellers can navigate these challenges, which keeps me engaged and fascinated by the real estate industry.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Before transitioning to a full-time agent, I gained experience in financial services, collections, customer service, and utility industries. My diverse background has provided me with a distinct skill set to effectively assist clients in navigating their real estate transactions.
Drawing from my experience in handling irate clients and complex problem-solving, I consider myself a solution-oriented professional. Emphasizing the importance of finding solutions over dwelling on negatives, I leverage my effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills to cater to clients ranging from first-time home buyers to seasoned investors.
While I recently have been working with more investors and sellers, my heart remains with first-time home buyers, understanding the gravity of their life-changing decisions. I support my clients throughout the entire home-buying process, seeking feedback to enhance my services. Upholding the principle of treating others as I wish to be treated, I believe in cultivating lasting relationships with clients based on trust and mutual respect.
We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One interesting thing about me is my passion for collecting souvenirs. I absolutely love traveling, whether it’s within the US or abroad. Whenever I go on a trip, I make sure to bring back a souvenir, even if I’ve been to the location before. There’s something truly special about collecting souvenirs from different places and creating a tangible memory of your adventures.
Each item holds a story, a moment frozen in time that brings back a flood of memories when you look at it. Each souvenir is a treasure trove of experiences, a physical manifestation of the places I’ve explored and the people I’ve met along the way. Whether it’s a small trinket, a postcard, or a unique local handicraft, each souvenir is a reminder of the beauty and diversity of our world waiting to be discovered.
