Today we’d like to introduce you to Late Night Television. They and their team shared their story with us below:
Late Night Television was started in early 2023 by Aidan Madden and Matt Martirano. The pair grew up playing in bands together in Mahopac, NY, before moving to Nashville in 2019 to study at Belmont University.
There, they met bassist Isaac Mauldin and guitarist/producer David Shivers. After playing in bands throughout college separately and together, the four came together to create a project that seeks to blend the styles of 60s/70s bands with modern indie pop.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The Nashville music scene is so full of amazing and talented musicians, songwriters, and artists that the biggest obstacles can come with just trying to set yourself apart and create meaningful work that will stand out. For Late Night Television, this work starts in the studio.
Trying to develop a sound and a style that is unique can only really happen when every band member is on the same page, and once that happens, the next challenge is finding a producer who can understand that and make the band sound better than they can themselves.
Late Night Television was able to find this in their producer, David Shivers, who has created a healthy creative environment where they are always striving to make each song better than the last, whether from a songwriting perspective or with new production elements.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Late Night Television is an indie rock band born out of the spirit of groups like The Beatles and Nirvana. The band sets out to create simple, memorable melodies with sing-along choruses against a backdrop of hard-hitting drums and catchy guitar hooks. They are most known for their electric and upbeat live shows, where they showcase their infectious passion for performing.
Their passion for live performance translates to the studio, where they spend most of their time alongside producer David Shivers. They spent the last year working on their debut EP, “Down and Out,” with singles “Wear Me Out” and “Never Wanna Wake Up Alone Again,” the latter of which was featured on Nashville’s own Lightning 100 radio station. The band is currently working on a follow-up EP set to be released later this year.
What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson the band has learned has to do with the decision-making process when it comes to production. Making decisions in service of the song and being deliberate in instrumentation choices, dynamic choices, form, etc.
