Hidden Gems: Meet Amy Green

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Amy Green.

Amy Green

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Having faced the profound heartbreak of three losses with my partner, Isaac, before the birth of our first child, I encountered the immense challenge of finding adequate support during such a trying time, despite my background as a therapist. This personal journey of healing fueled my determination to make a difference in perinatal mental health.

Subsequently, I joined a private practice, where I had the privilege of providing maternal mental healthcare. However, I found myself grappling with an internal conflict related to the business model – a structure predominantly centered on private pay, catering to a majority of middle-to-upper-class and primarily Caucasian women.

Identifying a significant gap in care, I made the decision to establish my own practice, one that would not only offer accessible maternal mental healthcare to women and their families but also operate on a business model that embraces inclusivity and diversity. 2019, I founded the Nashville Collaborative Counseling Center to do just that.

Shortly after opening our doors, we found ourselves in the midst of a global pandemic and quickly learned how to serve our patients in a virtual environment. During this period, we also expanded our practice to serve not only mothers but also their families, as this was what our community needed from us. In 2023, Nashville Collaborative Counseling Center served approximately 3,000 clients and completed almost 60,000 client sessions with a staff of 65 employees and 17 interns.

This year, I founded Mamaya Health – which focuses 100% on maternal mental health – and where we are boldly breaking down the barriers that exist for women to receive the life-sustaining care that they deserve.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growth is exciting, but it also presents many challenges, and it is not a smooth road.

Raising capital to support expansion and securing funding is difficult, especially for women. Recruitment, retention, and building and maintaining a qualified team dedicated to our mission and vision in this competitive landscape is also challenging.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nashville Collaborative Counseling Center + Mamaya Health. For our readers who might not be as familiar with the brand, what can you tell them about it?
At Nashville Collaborative Counseling Center and Mamaya Health, we seek to eliminate the barriers that exist to receiving mental health care. We believe that mental health care should be affordable, so we are in-network with most major insurance providers and offer services on a deep sliding fee scale.

We believe that mental health care should be individualized, and our team works with each client to match them with a therapist trained in their specific needs. We are bold in our belief that access to life-sustaining care should be available to anyone who needs it.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was curious, tenacious, and sensitive to the needs of others. These characteristics are still true and have served me well as an entrepreneur and therapist.
