Today, we’d like to introduce you to Kim Penz.
Hi Kim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I came back to Nashville for the second time 9 years ago to write songs.
Shortly after, I was convinced to open my own publishing company. I was an artist in 2001, and music has always been part of my life. I couldn’t let that go, so now I travel back and forth from Dallas to Nashville, selling real estate in Dallas and in Nashville to pay for my publishing company. (This is my why).
I’ve been number one in D magazine for a top producer or best neighborhood agent for the last 10 years. Just started working for Zeitlin here in Nashville. While continuing to run my Publishing company.
I absolutely love this community and the people in it. I am on the board of Vanderbilt, comprehensive care clinic, and Habitat For Humanity music row project raising money for both causes. I have a full team of people at Lady Luck Songs, and there are staff writers. We have Creative Director, general manager, and admin support.
I also dabble in development. My real estate team is working on building a couple of neighborhood communities in the Nashville area. The music community and the real estate community are like a second family to me.
And I’m so blessed to lived in both places.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There are always challenges and things in life that you have to give up to get what you want.
The road has been a little bumpy, but the journey has been beautiful so far. I always tell my real estate customers that if they love country music, they should let me sell their land because everything goes towards it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Writing songs and being a champion to other songwriters are my greatest joys. When I first came back to town, my number one goal was to get songs cut and get them on the radio, and now my goal is to have respect from my peers.
Though we’ve succeeded, we still have a long way to go. Every day is a new lesson, and I never stop learning about this crazy business. There is no greater reward than walking into a room and having something really important to say that day and translating that into a beautiful song or negotiating a deal where both buyer and seller are happy!
What does success mean to you?
Never giving up, staying consistent. Learning from my mistakes and from others who have paved the way.
