Inspiring Conversations with CARLA VERGE of NSPIREDHAIRDZNS

Today we’d like to introduce you to CARLA VERGE

Hi CARLA, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for hairstyling runs deep. I’d like to believe it’s in my DNA. I grew up with a few family members who did hair. I loved going to the salon with my auntie, seeing the relationships among clients and stylists, the music playing in the background, hearing the laughter among clients, the smell of the hot comb and curling irons…as a young girl going to the salon was a big girl move.

In 9th grade, I got in trouble for curling my friend’s hair in science class. During the 90’s hip-hop era I was inspired by intricate ponytails and stylish updos. Classics like the rodded ponytail, the pin curl ponytail, and the french roll. Now, I love expressing my creativity through haircutting and the versatility of short hairstyles. It’s been 27 years since I started this journey. I’ve had my fair share of ups and downs, but each experience has shaped me into the hairstylist and entrepreneur I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As a hairstylist, I’ve faced numerous challenges that have shaped me both personally and professionally.

Going back to school as an adult was challenging, but earning my business management degree from the University of Phoenix was a pivotal moment. It helped me refine my skills and learn how to run a business effectively.

Starting a family unexpectedly was a big adjustment, but with the support of my loved ones, I’ve been able to balance parenthood with my career goals. Their encouragement brings me joy.

Losing my uncle, mother, and grandmother back-to-back a year apart from each other was incredibly difficult. Balancing grief while serving my clients tested my emotional strength, but I remained dedicated to providing exceptional service the best way I could.

A loving memory that brings me comfort is the support my granny showed when I graduated from cosmetology school. She gifted me all of the marcel irons and a stove, which still holds sentimental value to me.

My journey as a hairstylist has been filled with highs and lows, but each experience has made me more resilient and grateful for the connections I’ve made along the way.
