Check Out Sheri Angeles’ Story

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Sheri Angeles.

Hi Sheri, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My husband and I lived in LA on and off for the past 15 years until we decided a couple of years ago that it was time to officially leave our LA life behind, slow down from the grind that LA is, and remove ourselves from what it is becoming.

If you know, you know what I am talking about. That being said, I have been a photographer since I was 15/16 years old, which is 21+ years, and I have been a fashion photographer in the industry for 14+ of those years. I have had many amazing opportunities to work with some of the best clients, celebrities, brands, models, magazines, and agencies in the fashion world, and I still do.

To give you a little back story, for about five years, I have thought about starting my own modeling agency or at least becoming a mother agent, which, if you don’t know what that is, in a nutshell, it is someone who scouts, develops and places models worldwide with larger agencies. It just was never quite the right timing, but when we moved to Nashville a couple of years ago, this desire to become a mother agent was so overwhelming I couldn’t shake it. I even had friends telling me, you should do this; it’s the perfect next step for you, etc.

So, after much prayer and discussion with my husband, I felt at peace that this was now the time to start this next venture. It just made sense, I had the connections to the agencies from me working with them from so many years, I have been shooting fashion for 14+ years, I know how to develop models and I can photograph each of my models to help get their book started.

The knowledge that I can bring to the table to guide each of my models is unparalleled because I have the background from being in this industry, especially from a photographer’s point of view.

This past January was a year in business for Standard Models and it has been one of the best decisions I have ever made, I LOVE being a mother agent and this has fulfilled a passion in me, that I didn’t even know existed to this degree.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Standard has officially been around almost a year and a half, and if I am honest, it has been pretty smooth sailing for the most part, with a couple of bumps in the road in the beginning.

In the beginning, I had to go through some growing pains as I navigated this new world of becoming an agent and blessing my models who have been with me from day one who trusted me and took a leap of faith in me, as I was figuring things out as we went along. They were so gracious and patient with me.

More importantly, I have to give a shout-out to some of my agent friends that I got to know while working with them as the photographer for their models, who helped me out and really guided me. I am so grateful to those who really were accessible to me, answered my questions, and helped me get off the ground on the right foot.

I am so eternally grateful.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Standard Models is a model management company where we focus on scouting, development, and placement with larger agencies and markets worldwide. Our main focus is fashion and commercial models, fashion models are great for editorials, runway, and bigger high end brands.

We look for male fashion models, who are typically more on the leaner side and are about 6ft+, and female models, who are usually 5’9+. For commercial models, there is a little more leeway across the board of what we look for, but with height for male models, we look for 5’10+ and female models 5’7+.

There is some flexibility with height if you are the right fit.

For only being in business for a year and a half, I am proud of the fact that many of my models who are new to the game, have had their first magazine publication, many have been placed in different markets, I have some European models I represent, a couple of my models have been booked by big brands already, and some are currently in line to get placed in Europe. Just so many beautiful things were unfolding.

So maybe we end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
Standard Models was named Standard for a reason, I personally have high standards for myself in area of my life. Faith, family, work, friends, etc.

So, for every model that I represent, I, too, want them to have high standards for themselves. It is so important for people to stick to their convictions and what matters most to them and not sway from them because of peer pressure or whatever the case may be, especially in this industry. Having standards will most certainly keep you grounded, humble, and on the right track.

You asked me what matters most, and I would say having standards and respect for yourself. It is key.
