Today we’d like to introduce you to Ca$hk.
Hi Ca$hk, I am so excited to have you on the platform. Before we ask about your work life, you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I got my start in music through musical theater. I started doing shows at age 8 and continued them through high school. I gained such a passion for performance through this form, and it inspired me to want to continue performing. Theater inspired a love for storytelling through music, naturally leading me to write my songs. The first song I wrote was when I was like 7 or 8 years old. I still have it written in an old notebook and have been writing ever since. Songwriting and stage performance fuel my creativity; my real passion lies in all these. It gets me high, lol. I can only function properly with singing, writing, and expressing myself on stage. Since high school, I’ve pursued artistry and songwriting in Nashville, Tennessee. I attended Belmont University, gaining much exposure to the music and business in Nashville. I’ve had such a fun time during this portion of my musical journey; Nashville has become such a home to me and a place where I’ve found myself and my sound and distinguished my presence as an artist. I’m figuring out who I am, what I want to offer the world, etc. Nashville is unique, and I’ve fallen in love with the community here. I am where I am today because of this city and the wonderful people I’ve met since being here. I play many shows every year; I play writers’ rounds – I recently got to play the famous song Suffragettes, which was an incredible opportunity. I plan to continue to play these shows and grow even more, playing bigger venues and getting out of state on a national tour.
We all face challenges, but looking back, would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growing up, I went through a lot personally and within my family that has shaped my experience and perspective of the world. My life is the dictionary for the words I write in my songs and the stories I tell, so I wouldn’t change any of those experiences for anything. In music, the road is never truly smooth. As an artist, you have to go through shit to have an opinion. You must have a few scars on your skin and battles under your belt to contribute anything to the conversation. I’ve struggled personally with abandonment and acceptance issues; I went to 10 different schools before graduating high school, and my dad was never around. I have a lot of baggage, lol. But it makes my writing so much better.
Thanks for sharing that. Can you tell us more about your work next?
I am known for singing, writing, and performing music in Nashville, TN. I tend to fall into the R&B genre, which in Nashville is somewhat of a rarity- I like to claim I am among the first school of performers and creatives in this genre that are making the R&B wave a real thing the city of Nashville, music city. My songwriting skills and stage performance set me apart in this sphere- the songs are poetic and real, and the performances are raw and intimate. Most people who know me know me for those two things.
I’m most proud of how far I have come as a songwriter, how far I’ve come with my stage presence and the types of shows I put on. I’ve played some very cool venues like The Brooklyn Bowl Nashville, and I have become renowned for my ability to give a stellar show. Just the other day, my acquaintance in music complimented me on my performance, saying that when I’m on stage, it’s like a whole different person is up there than the person he sees before him. That stuck with me so hard. IF there’s anything I want to be known for, it’s giving a performance that leaves people talking and feeling something when they leave.
I also dance and create art. I make and edit many of the artwork associated with my music. I love to create a whole world around my music – I love to put concepts together and create an entire experience with each song, making a tiny world for listeners to venture to and experience rather than listen. I want to transport them. Currently, with the music that I have out, most people might say they know me for my party, hot girl songs. That’s just been the vibe lately, but I’m an intense person, and I have a lot to say; my newer music, dropping later in 2024, reflects this, and I’m so excited to share it. Don’t get me wrong, I am a hot girl but kind of a sad hot girl; a hot girl who cries, lol.
How do you define success?
Success, to me, is ever-changing. I’m the type of person constantly striving for better, so once I get a goal I’ve been working on, that’s a mini-success. But then, the next day, I had a new goal, a new definition of success, and a new level. I always want to work on myself in music, life, or aesthetics; I want to be my best. I’ll know when I made it in life when I’m selling out arenas and performing at the Grammy’s and then driving home to my house, which looks like it came delivered from the Italian countryside. But yeah, I want to feel fulfilled and have lived out my dreams, be able to chill and enjoy, and eventually give back to kids who, just like me, have dreams of being artists and impacting the world.
