Today we’d like to introduce you to Gabriel Pabon
Gabriel, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story and the story of On The Radar begins during my time at St. Johns University in Queens New York. I started off at my local radio station before eventually meeting NY radio legend Angie Martinez and being brought to Power 105.1 to intern for her. During my time there I came up with the concept for On The Radar because I felt like there was a gap in the industry for a platform that allows artists the opportunity to show off their skills as well as a place where they would feel comfortable and not judged for being different than what was currently the status quo. I started OTR in a backroom and grew it from there all the way through the pandemic where we switched to zoom interviews and then once out the pandemic we introduced the live performance aspect of the show which is what you see today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth rode at all I think the biggest struggle has been getting people to see the vision of what we’re trying to do. While everyone now accepts the show for what it is after someone like Drake has been on it, starting off we often time got dismissed because of the fact we were highlighting new types of sounds and music from the youth that weren’t considered what was traditionally popular at the time.
We’ve been impressed with On The Radar Productions. LLC , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
On The Radar is not only a platform but also we’re currently in the stage of growing it into a strong multifaceted company offering management services for artists, a record label which we’ve already started and have seen over 10+ Millions streams this last year. While the core of On The Radar is the platform we created for artists, we want to expand our horizons and a big part of that was jumping into Country Music and coming to Nashville to expand the show.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
The next 5-10 years I think music is going to be in an interesting place because we’re beginning to see a lot of crossovers between genres like country and Hip-Hop. Looking at someone like Shaboozy and Jelly Roll who started off in the rap space and seeing what they have been able to accomplish is beautiful. I predict we’re going to see a lot of other artists follow in those same footsteps. I also think that more artists are going to focus on being independent and wont be relying on the traditional record labels we have.
