Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Beaston

Hi Jackie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I discovered my passion for makeup during a pivotal moment in any young girl’s life—a heartbreak. Devastated by my crush not reciprocating my feelings, I decided to experiment with a dramatic black smokey eye and paired it with my signature shimmery bronzer.

From there, I began playing with fun eye makeup on myself and my friends. This hobby quickly expanded into doing makeup for friends of friends and beyond. In college, I had the opportunity to assist a makeup artist in my city, which led to an introduction at the MAC store in our local mall. After interviewing, I landed a job there and spent the next five years learning from and being inspired by amazing artists who helped shape my career.

During this time, I built a reputation in my city as a talented makeup artist, eventually leaving my full-time management position at MAC. I worked weddings every weekend and pursued my esthetics license during the week while training as a brow expert under a talented artist in Wilmington, Delaware.

Over the next five years, I became a respected and sought-after makeup artist, traveling to places like Vegas, Jamaica, Greece, and surrounding states to serve my clients. I also established myself as a highly sought-after brow artist, attracting clients from nearby states and cities for permanent makeup services.

My husband’s job brought us to Nashville, and though I was nervous about leaving my family, friends, and community in Delaware, I was excited about new opportunities. I reached out to Kedrin, the owner of The Artistry, An Aesthetics House, and after meeting her and seeing the space, I decided to take a leap of faith.

It’s been about five months since I opened my studio, Jackie B Beauty, at The Artistry, and each month has been busier and more fulfilling. As a brow expert, I offer services ranging from cleanups and shaping to tinting, lamination, and permanent solutions. I also specialize in makeup that enhances natural beauty, available both in-studio and on location.

I absolutely love it here in Nashville. The community of dream chasers and creatives inspires me, and I am excited to continue growing my business and connections. I look forward to building more community here and hope to see you soon!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Honestly, I feel like I have been really blessed in my career. It was not always easy or comfortable but I’ve had many amazing opportunities that made all the stress worthwhile. Early in my career, I struggled with comparing myself to others and being overly critical of my artistry. However, as I continued to train, grow my confidence, and gain my clients’ trust, those worries began to fade.

I would say the biggest struggle was when the pandemic shut down the personal service industry for months. It was a scary time because I thrive both professionally and personally on being around people. The uncertainty also triggered a fear of financial instability, which is daunting when you rely on your business to pay the bills.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in enhancing natural beauty through brows and makeup. I offer makeup services, brow shaping, brow tinting, brow lamination, and permanent makeup services including powder brows, combo brows, and lip blush. My journey in the beauty industry began 11 years ago with makeup, and nearly 6 years ago, I started focusing on becoming a brow expert.

What I am most proud of is the high level of service I provide. I uphold very high standards and take great pride in the experience I offer my clients. Whether it’s a consultation or a full brow treatment, my goal is to make people feel welcomed and heard. I am grateful for my skills in creating beautiful brows and makeup looks, but even more so for my ability to make people feel truly good about themselves, which is something special.

What’s next?
My plans for the future are to continue to grow my roots here in Nashville and build a strong community like I had back in Delaware. My husband and I are excited to explore the city more, and I am looking forward to meeting other creatives who are following their dreams here and of course people looking to have great brows! I have many goals for myself and my business but since I have had a lot of big changes this last year, I am thinking the rest of 2024 will be focusing on the growth of my clientele and continuing to offer top notch services.
