Today we’d like to introduce you to Sevy.
Hi Sevy, I’m so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, how can you bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I come from a musical family, growing up in a small Texas town. My momma taught me how to sing while my dad taught me guitar. When I turned 13-ish, I started playing shows in local restaurants and bars with my parents and aunt. I did that up until I left for college. After I dropped out of college, I picked up playing shows again and took them more seriously. I never stopped playing or writing; I just slowed my way down. Eventually, I made it onto the voice, where I got to quit my day job and pursue music and writing full time.
As soon as I got a complete show schedule and had studio time, Covid came into the picture. As with many others, it completely wrecked my world. It wasn’t until a year ago I saw that time off as a refresher. Before and during that time, I was writing and playing music I liked but never truly loved. I felt trapped in my name, like I couldn’t say what I truly felt because I had to have a specific image for friends, family, and fans. They couldn’t see me broken, hurting, or struggling.
I moved to Nashville in January of 2022 and still write songs I still need to fully connect with. It wasn’t until January of 2023 that I started writing songs I truly felt; I started acting who I am on camera and at shows. So, I changed my artist name to my childhood nickname, and finally, I feel like I’m how God created me to be. I’m writing music I genuinely believe in. I now have a say in how my music sounds and how it’s recorded, thanks to my team at OEG and my producers, Brian Bunn and Tyler Woodward. I am who I say I am. Sevy.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It’s been a challenging journey but has only strengthened my resolve. The path to a career in music is not for the faint of heart, and I’ve had my share of struggles. But I’ve also faced my mental battles, overcoming the obstacles that life has thrown at me. This resilience has defined my journey and continues to inspire me.
Let’s end by discussing what matters most to you and why.
What matters most to me in my career is creating music that I love and resonates with me, with the hope that it can touch someone’s life and help them navigate their challenges. In my personal life, my faith, my family, and my friends are my pillars of strength. They are the ones who have always been there for me, supporting me in my journey and helping me stay true to myself.
