Today we’d like to introduce you to Nneamaka Nwubah
Hi Nneamaka, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I suppose a good place to start is how I found medicine. I was introduced into medicine in the face of tragedy when my brother was diagnosed with a brain tumor and died at the age of 18. I decided I would be a physician as did 2 of my siblings. Fast forward to medical school, I discovered plastic surgery during a breast reconstruction case in medical school at Vanderbilt. The plastic surgeons were rebuilding a breast after it had been surgically removed to treat breast cancer (a mastectomy). I thought it was the neatest thing and I just knew I was going to be a plastic surgeon. Following my plastic surgery training which was 7 years in total, I made my way back to Nashville and joined a group and then followed my heart and opened up my own practice in March of 2023.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not at all. I initially didn’t match into residency / in other words I didn’t have a spot for training after medical school and then landed a spot at the very last minute. During training it was SO vigorous that I wondered if I could even do it. I kept going as I remembered the voice that told me this was what I was meant to do. Soon after I opened my practice my dad passed away suddenly, and several other things after, that made me pause and question my path, but I kept persevering remembering that vision I had long ago, and I am glad I did.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a plastic surgery practice. We do cosmetic and reconstructive plastic surgery as well as non surgical offerings including Botox and filler. We are known for our results and very personalized, patient driven care. Many patients comment on how they didn’t feel like a number throughout their experience. Our brand is really THAT. It’s about what each of us at the practice represents and how people feel when they walk into our office or call us for the first time.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
