Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Selby
Hi Alyssa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
As a child, I’ve always been interested in art and all of its forms. I’ve been particularly fond of digital arts and photography since I was a kid. I started doing design work for all of my 9-5 jobs over the last 11 years. In the last year, I have been preparing to take the leap into full time graphic design and brand development for local businesses. At the start of this year, I launched my Studio, and this summer I will be stepping into full time work as a freelance graphic designer.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been far from smooth sailing getting to where I find myself today. Navigating the critique of former employers, and struggling to recognize and price my value have been huge challenges. Needless to say, I have done far too much for often to little because in the beginning I was nervous to send bids and set my value. When I let go of the fear of other’s opinions, is when I really became free to be creative, and things have flown more smoothly ever since!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have specialized in business administration. I have done backend work of product development, marketing, team training, program development for the last 12+ years! I’ve seen in the businesses of others what works, what doesn’t, and how to make operations run more smoothly for the benefit of company and customer! This has transferred into the creative industry I find myself in now as I can bring all my prior business, and creative experiences into my Studio as I create and serve my clients.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I’m not a big believer in luck. As a Christian, I ascribe to the belief that we should “work like it all depends on us, and pray like it all depends on God.” Hard work is the most valuable asset to bring to any venture, but I can only ever do my best in any situation. I believe when I present my best effort, God blesses it and will carry it through and to whoever it would help the most.
