Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Frazier.
Hi Bryan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was. born in the Blue Ridge mountain town of Winchester, Virginia, (Patsy Clines Hometown) it was in that town where my love of music was born.
At age thirteen I learned a few chords and a Kenny Chesney song off of YouTube and was hooked from that point on playing any bonfire or basement party I could.
After high school, I attend Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, West. Virginia. This is where I first started playing gigs cutting my teeth playing shows and getting paid for them. In 2014 after graduation, I decided to make the jump to Nashville to pursue what a lot of people move to Nashville to pursue songwriting and singing.
I dove right into the songwriting community writing as much as I could and playing as much as possible. As a songwriter, I have had over 40 cuts with multiple artists and over 10 million streams combined. As an artist, I have had the opportunity to open for such artists as Phil Vassar, Jimmie Allen, Tyler Rich, and Cole Swindell.
Currently I am on my 9th year of living in Nashville writing and singing on the road and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The music industry in general is full of the highest highs and the lowest lows. I have had great opportunities to play to thousands of people and also played to rooms with almost empty chairs.
The highs of having a song cut or playing at a festival where people are singing along to your music make up for all the long nights, the million no’s.
The biggest thing that will get you through the struggles of the music industry in Nashville I think is the tight crew of fellow singer/songwriters you make when moving to town to chase this dream.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I write three to four times a week with different artists and songwriters. Sometimes we are writing for a pitch. Or other times we are writing for me. The great thing about songwriting is every day is different, but the song is still king, and even with the way social media has changed the music landscape I believe that is still true.
I’ve released over 18 songs and I’m proud of every one of them but there are a few that stick out and that my fanbase seems to gravitate toward. One particular song would be called “Damn BNA” a song about a girl leaving and the only thing you can blame is the airport that took her away. This particular song has taken on a life of its own as when any of my fans are stuck at the Nashville airport they tag and share it.
I would say what sets me apart from others is my sound and songwriting. I take a lot of inspiration from the late 90s country and early 2000s rock. If you mix those two you get a Bryan Frazier song.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel the main qualities that are important to any success in the music industry are patience and trusting your gut. You always want everything right now but now being farther along in my career I realize that time helps you get better and the more you write and sing the better you will become.
Trusting your gut I believe another characteristic that is important to success. There have been points in my career where I have taken chances that most people would have not done. But in my gut I truly believed that it was the right thing to do and it paid off in huge ways.
