Meet Gypsy Nights

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gypsy Nights.

Hi Gypsy Nights, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Gypsy Nights are Goose LaPoint (drums, producer), Andy Godlewski (vocals, guitar), Devon Pangle (guitar), and Matt Deason (bass). Goose and Andy grew up together in Syracuse; in May of 2023 they decided to start a project in Nashville. The primary idea was to create original music and also do event gigs playing covers which would help finance the original material. Goose met Devon while playing in John Fogerty’s band from 2017-2019. After Fogerty, Devon was in L.A. for a while. When Goose heard he was looking for something new, Goose encouraged him to come to Nashville. Goose also spent several years in Denver where he met Matt Deason (bass). Also looking for something new Matt took the chance on Nashville through his connection to Goose. In November of 2023, the four core members officially came together as Gypsy Nights. A lot has been happening since then. We have been releasing songs every six weeks on Spotify and all the streaming platforms. We’ve started doing corporate gigs, and we’re now quickly working our way up Broadway. This whole experience has been a very fast and fun ride.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has actually been smooth, and very fast. Our biggest struggle right now is how to get everything done that needs to be done. Also, we each have things going on outside of the band which is forcing us to shift and make adjustments in our individual schedules so that we can be available for the many offers coming our way as a band.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Gypsy Nights is an original band, but we’re also playing corporate events in order to fund the original project. Stylistically, we are all extremely versatile. Between the four of us we probably have about 90-100 years of experience. Through our experience we can confidently (and boldly!) cover genres from 90’s/2000’s, hip-hop and R&B, classic rock, country, and metal. On Broadway, our audiences are showing the most excitement with the 90’s/2000’s era (think Sugar Ray, Spice Girls, and Smash Mouth), plus the louder stuff like Blink 182 and Creed. What we’re known for though is definitely our energy. This band is high-octane and electric.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Certainly the most important thing is simply to be open to meeting people no matter where you are. Just because I’m shopping at the grocery store doesn’t mean that I won’t meet “industry” people in the produce aisle. No matter where you go, there will be people who are related to your industry in some way. They may know someone who knows someone. Just meet people. Be kind and genuinely interested in who people are, outside of their work. Things happen when you’re in a constant state of wonder and openness. This band is proof good things happen when you live from a state of integrity in your vision. We have several mentors who have come into our circle (and let us in theirs!) just for being interested in who they are outside of their professional roles. It may seem like a tricky thing to do, but it’s well worth practicing life this way — to experience people for who they are and not what their roles are. The bonus is, it can expand your inner circle, regardless of whether you’re in the same industry or not. We’re creating community. That’s true networking.
