Hidden Gems: Meet Portia Mitchell of FramedFIT

Today we’d like to introduce you to Portia Mitchell

Hi Portia, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Portia & I am a Movement & Mindset Coach. I specialize in teaching individuals about the mind to muscle connection through flexibility, mobility, and core strengthening.
I’ve battled with my auto immune disorder since I was 4, but it wasn’t until I was 21 years old that I decided I was going to take my health into my own hands and really prioritize my health and wellness. I knew that I needed to make wellness apart of my lifestyle in order to manage my inflammatory disorder better.

I’ve always had an athletic background from cheerleading and track growing up, but I started working out and changing my eating habits in order to manage my auto-immune disorder better. After working out for a while and transforming my own body people began reaching out to me wanting me to train them and teach them about holistic nutrition. So at the end of 2018 I started my brand FramedFIT. Fast forward 6 years later, after training over a hundred clients, I realized across the board majority of the people that I’ve worked with all struggled with a common problem – not understanding the fundamentals of movement. Although working out is great for you, if you don’t understand the basic frame work of your body it will stall your progress and lead you toward potential injury long-term.

Upon coming to that realization and wanting to better serve my clients I pivoted my style of training toward teaching flexibility, mobility, and core strength. I now call myself a Movement & Mindset Coach. I focus on teaching the connection between psychology and anatomy. I created my signature training technique called “Strength and Stretch” where I use a contrology approach which is the idea of letting your mind control the muscles. So during my sessions I teach my clients how to properly use breathwork in order to relax your nervous system and strengthen the mind to muscle connection. I look at my work as a form of meditation for alot of people.

Since then I’ve been able to help my clients on a deeper level and tap into an even wider audience. EVERYONE can benefit from mindful breathing, mobility work, and deep stretching to improve functional movement. I now work with athletes, non-athletes, children, etc. I currently have clients that I work with New York, LA, and Chicago. I have also tapped into corporate wellness and I host strength and stretch classes for corporate employees in order to relieve stress in the work place.

I love and enjoy the lane that I am in currently and the opportunities are endless.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Two of the biggest struggles I’ve faced has been maintaining a healthy work-life balance and having patience.

My brand is my lifestyle so it’s super easy to kinda overlap the two and get stuck in “work mode” constantly. I’m posting my healthy meals, supplements I take daily, my stretch routines, my workouts, books and podcast I’m into, etc. Sometimes the pressure of feeling like I constantly have to “show up” can be alot. Luckily I have gotten a lot better with learning how to balance it all and also learning to give myself grace.

I’ve also had to learn the art of patience. Entrepreneurship is a marathon not a sprint. With that being said you have to really have patience with your journey. There’s been moments where I have needed to pivot and start over a million times. But no matter what I have had to trust myself, trust God, and be patient with how things play out.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

When it comes to flexibility and mobility, it can look very different for everyone. I love seeing my clients reach new heights and receive breakthroughs both mentally and physically.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I don’t necessarily believe in luck per se, I more so believe in being in alignment. When you are living in your truth and moving purposefully you’ll find that you’re becoming aligned with really good opportunities and connecting with amazing people who are divinely placed in your life for a specific reason and for your greater good.
