Meet Nat Harden of Cumberland Painting LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nat Harden

Hi Nat, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
In December of 2023, after working for the Nashville Predators and Bridgestone Arena for a
rewarding 26 years, I took a leap of faith with my business partner, Greg Harvey, and started
Cumberland Painting. With the hockey team and arena, I oversaw sales, service, and business
strategy. I loved every aspect my job, but what made me the most excited to come to work
every day was interacting with the fans and having a positive effect on the Nashville
community.
Greg and I both worked at the Nashville Predators together a while back. He moved on to work
at Vanderbilt University, and we remained good friends. Together, we have a combined 50
years of doing business in Nashville, and have the same business values, knowing the
importance of strong relationships and a commitment to helping people.
So, in January of 2024, Cumberland Painting was born. We are very proud to be locally owned
and operate out of East Nashville. We are fortunate that the personal and business
relationships we have built over the past 20+ years has helped us get off to a fast start. Greg
and I are exceptionally grateful that our clients put their trust in us, and we truly enjoy
transforming their home and business spaces.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With a startup, there are always bumps in the road. For more than 20 years, I sold hockey
tickets, and now I am a painting contractor, so there has been a learning curve for me. Leaning
on our core business values helps guide our company’s decisions, how we interact with our
clients, and how we are helping our community. I have been very fortunate in my career to
have worked with people who understand the concept of collaboration between departments
within an organization. Not only is it important to have strong relationships with our clients, but
within our business as well, which has led to Cumberland Painting’s early success.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Do you have any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
What has worked well for you?
Throughout my career I have worked with extremely smart and talented
individuals who I am proud to call my friends. I have gained a tremendous
amount of knowledge from each person’s area of expertise. These
relationships made each step of building our business possible.
I haven’t had just one mentor who has guided me throughout my career.
What has worked for me is forming lasting business relationships that I
have relied on to advise me in their area of knowledge.

Also, I have joined online painters groups who want to help each other
succeed. We are all from separate states, so we’re not competing against
each other for business. We are open with one another about what has and
hasn’t worked from a marketing or materials standpoint. Cumberland
Painting can reach new, local clients and provide them with specialty paint
options because of our openness and willingness to connect with other
painters nationwide.
