Life & Work with Kathryn Currey of Brentwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Currey

Hi Kathryn, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I founded Girl Friday after recognizing a growing need for home management services. While visiting a friend’s home, I noticed he was struggling to keep everything in order due to his demanding corporate job, which required frequent travel and long hours. The last thing he wanted to do when he came home was tackle household projects.

He asked if I could assist with organizing his home, managing vendors, and keeping the refrigerator stocked for his return. With my passion for helping others and my knack for creating and maintaining household structure, I eagerly took on the challenge. It quickly became evident that he wasn’t alone in needing this kind of help, so Girl Friday was born.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I am in the early stages of launching Girl Friday, and so far, the journey has been relatively smooth. The biggest challenge has been introducing the concept of home management to Nashville, where it is still a relatively new idea compared to larger cities. The impact of professional home management on a household is immense. Imagine coming home after a long day at the office to find everything taken care of: air filters changed, gutters cleaned, and the A/C unit serviced. With Girl Friday, you can truly come home to a private oasis and relax without any worries.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I managed a 100-acre working horse farm for several years, an experience I truly loved. During my time there, I also ran a non-profit horse rescue, where I rehabilitated Thoroughbreds from the racetrack and retrained them for new careers. Given that racehorses have a short career span of around four years, but can live up to 25 years, it was incredibly rewarding to give them a second chance.

Following this, I worked for an equine genetics company in Silicon Valley. While this job was enjoyable, I realized my true calling lies in service and making people’s lives easier.

My horse riding career is what I’m most proud of, as it has instilled in me a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and the determination to get the job done. I can’t imagine where I would be without the invaluable lessons I’ve learned from horses.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Nashville is home to wonderful people, and I love how the city has grown and matured into a thriving community over the years. One of its greatest charms is the ability to be in the serene countryside within 20 minutes from downtown, offering the best of both worlds.

If I had to point out a downside, it would be the traffic—something I think everyone here can agree on.
