Rising Stars: Meet Rachid Bell of East Nashville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachid Bell

Hi Rachid , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been a professional recording artist since I was 8 years old. I was published at 10 years old. I was signed to Universal records as a preteen and had album released in 1998 entitled ‘Prototype’. The album was critic’s choice in the New York Times, Spin magazine(lyric sheet of the year) and the Village Voice. The album is now a cult classic. I became an independent artist since then and have released some EP’s and singles. I am currently under management at Midtown Radio under Sony.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been very turbulent as I’ve had to find my career independently after my debut. The international fans that I’ve had in the beginning have stayed with me over the years, but I haven’t been able to tour Europe like I’ve needed to for those fans. All of the music industry changes with how music is marketed, promoted and sold has been something I’ve have to take on myself. None of this has been easy. I have also struggled with having to leave music intermittently as a full time pursuit when times were lean. Fortunately, I never left the music or my fans for very long. I have continued to make music whether it has been released or not I’ve the years. My vault is packed to the gills and my best work is ahead of me. One thing for which I’m most grateful is the confidence I have developed in the face of adversity and in the face of people who have either written me off or don’t understand my work. I know there is a place for me and that there will always be. I have created space for myself by continually producing over the years . I not only have a thick skin, I have duck feathers and an iron will. Maybe it’s because I started so young!
Moving to Nashville from NYC is a total reset.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a signer songwriter. I specialize in soulful pop anthems and ‘visual music’. I am most proud of the fact that I never gave up on myself in that I continued to always create music. I am one of one because my voice is what sets me apart from everyone. It’s signature.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is that I can get up everyday and sing. That is my raison d’être.
