Today we’d like to introduce you to Savanna Hill
Hi Savanna, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a music family here in Nashville, and aimed to pursue a career in music until I realized it wasn’t fulfilling for me- during that time of figuring it out, my body suffered the consequences of the stress and anxiety, and I went from being 30lbs overweight to 30lbs underweight in a matter of months. It took hitting rock bottom, with an eating disorder diagnosis and injuries as a result of over-exercising, to finally realize I needed to make a change. Fitness has become a much deeper, and more fulfilling career for me as a result of my own struggles/experience, as that is only one of the many difficult periods of my life that strength training and helping others by way of coaching has helped me through. I was let go from a job at a gym/community I really loved, then my brother took his life less than a year later, and then my partner left me within 6 months of my brother’s passing. Yet, I truly believe that fitness, mindset and the years of work and discomfort I’ve overcome have led me to be stronger through these times, and it is, without a doubt, my calling to empathize with and uplift others, helping people to realize and utilize the strength they have to conquer the hardest challenges found within the gym and outside of it.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha absolutely not! But that would make for a boring life, wouldn’t it? ;P
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I chose artist vs. professional/business, because I come from a musical/creative background, and enjoy intertwining artistry into my work as a fitness professional. The body is a work of art, and if we treat it well, it listens and responds according to what we are asking of it at any given moment.
With that said, I specialize in strength and joint mobility training, with the goal of helping folks out of pain and into a fitness lifestyle, with the understanding that this will include both joyful movement and discomfort in order to instill growth. Both are important, and I like for my clients to understand what and why they are doing something so they can better understand and connect with their bodies and minds.
I want to share the joy of feeling strong, resilient and capable of handling the toughest of life’s challenges. So I not only encourage my clients through challenging them to explore movement and get outside of their comfort zone, but I actively and regularly do this myself in hopes to inspire my clients and beyond.
My most recent adventure, summitting Mt. Kilimanjaro, is one I’m most proud of, as I climbed the mountain in honor of my brother whose bucket list item it was to do this.
How do you think about luck?
Hm, I’m not sure that’s how I look at it. Sure, I’ve had good and bad luck, but I prefer not to credit the outcome of my circumstances to luck. I believe every decision I’ve made has resulted in where I am now, and although things happen that aren’t fair, or seem like luck had something to do with it, I am ultimately responsible for where I am now and how my life has turned out thus far. If I credit or blame things on luck, it opens the door to credit or blame others for my circumstances, but taking responsibility for my own life and decisions made, whether good or bad, has proven to be the most beneficial for my growth. 🙂
