Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Porcelli-Lester.
Hi Christina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started Antonette’s Bakery a little over a year ago. It’s been a delicious journey! I’ve always had a passion for baking since I was a little girl. My uncle owned a bakery in Williamsburg Brooklyn, and my dad was a baker there.
My grandmother (Antonette) ate dessert every single day and lived to be 95 years old. She is the inspiration for my home bakery.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been a pretty smooth road, but there have been a few struggles along the way. I do love a good challenge and I probably do my best work under a little pressure. Some of the struggles I have are when customers request baked goods I don’t specialize in and last minute orders. I can definitely execute both of these, but it can be a little challenging!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I mainly specialize in Italian cookies and pastries. I am known for my lindzer tart cookies and my mini cheesecakes with homemade whipped cream. I am most proud of my lindzer tarts! They’re my customers favorites!
What sets me apart from others is that most of my recipes are authentic and old world with a little hint if a modern day twist!
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory! I have so many, especially when it comes to food and desserts! Every Saturday my grandmother would take me to the corner Deli to pick out a seeded fresh baked roll to make sandwiches. The Deli always had cute boys behind the counter and she would let me order a half pound of Boar’s Head Turkey. Haha, I felt so cool.
My mom would bring me a cream filled chocolate covered donut every Friday when she would come home from work! It was heaven to me!
