Today we’d like to introduce you to Carson Mac
Carson, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I have loved music for as long as I can remember, my first music collection being Baby Einstein’s Beethoven and Mozart. I graduated to country music around age three when I discovered Kenny Chesney and particularly, Keith Urban with his crazy-good guitar skills. Inspired by KU, I took my first guitar lesson at three and started classical piano at five. At age 8, I resumed guitar lessons and the craze began. Soon after I was playing open mics and set breaks for other musicians which led to playing headline gigs in and around Wichita, KS where I lived from age 4 to 12. The musicians/venue owners within the community were truly accepting and supportive of a young kid who just wanted to play anytime, anywhere. I have them to thank for guiding me in my musical journey. At 12 I moved back to NC to attend University of North Carolina School of the Arts for high school where I concentrated in classical guitar. In addition to my studies, I continued to play shows during the 4 years. After graduation, I spent another 4 years at NC State University where I played practically every weekend. In the fall of 2023, I headed for Nashville to extend my musical circle. I’m grinding it out every day.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
NOTHING worth having is struggle-free. I juggled the goal of graduating with honors with a loaded gig schedule during university. I recently left everything within my comfort zone to head to Nashville in order to chase the dream.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I describe my musical style as “country pickin’ meets pop melodies meets rock n roll n roll drive.” I am known for fusing my classical training with modern tunes to create intricate musical arrangements.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
With the recent move to Nashville, I really am starting again, so I’m not sure I am one to give advice. I really have been serious about music since I was 8 years old, but with the change in landscape from KS to NC to TN, I have found that starting over is like starting out. I have to build a fan base in each location by playing as much I can.
