Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Maria Cortes Poveda
Hi Ana Maria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Ana Maria was born in Colombia. After a brief stay in Canada, she settled in Tennessee in 2003. She holds a B.A. in Architecture from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano in Bogotá, Colombia, and a B.S. in Interior Design from Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, TN. Additionally, she is certified through Nationwide Insurance’s Agency Leadership Development Program.
Ana Maria transitioned to the insurance industry after working as a salesperson for The Yellow Pages, focusing on the Hispanic community. She joined AmeriAgency Insurance in 2006 as a Personal Lines Insurance Agent. Today, she is a partner at AmeriAgency Inc., serving as Vice President of Business Development & Marketing. In this role, she manages a diverse team of agents, fostering their professional growth.
Her strengths include leadership, enthusiasm, and problem-solving. These qualities have enabled her to effectively train and lead a successful team of insurance agents in the Nashville area. Under her guidance, AmeriAgency has quadrupled its workforce over the past five years.
Ana Maria is actively involved in the community through various organizations, such The National Association of Hispanic Real estate Professionals ( 2022 Nashville President Chapter) Nashville Mortgage Bankers Association, Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, and Tennessee Latin American Chamber of Commerce, Conexion Americas. She has advised on several Middle Tennessee events for the Hispanic community and mentors business owners through the Ella Program. Additionally, she has spoken to MTSU students about career opportunities in insurance during Hispanic Heritage Month.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The struggles on my journey to where I am today included adjusting to a new language, system, and culture in a different country. Throughout this process, I learned to take pride in my Hispanic roots and make a difference by using my talents to serve others. By always helping and guiding those in need, I strive to make the world a better place.

I am a partner at AmeriAgency Inc., where I serve as the Vice President of Business Development & Marketing. I specialize in personal lines insurance and lead a diverse team of agents. My primary focus is on developing strategies for business growth, marketing initiatives, and team management. I am known for my leadership skills, ability to generate enthusiasm, and flexible problem-solving approach.
What I Am Most Proud Of
I am most proud of the growth and success of my team. Under my leadership, we have increased our workforce fourfold over the past five years. This achievement reflects our collective hard work, dedication, and the positive impact we have on our clients and community.
What Sets Me Apart
What sets me apart is my deep connection to the Hispanic community and my commitment to helping others. My journey of adapting to a new language, culture, and system has taught me resilience and empathy. I use my experiences to guide and support others, particularly those in need. My ability to foster a bilingual, multicultural team and my passion for mentoring make me unique in the insurance industry. My goal is to make a positive difference by leveraging my talents and encouraging professional growth within my team.
