Hi Marie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hey there, I am originally a Maryland native turned Charlotte entrepreneur! I just graduated college with a degree in business and decided to start my online store. At Black and Divine, we’re not just a store; we’re a movement. Born out of a passion for making a difference in our community, we’re here to inspire the next generation of entrepreneurs and promote a healthier, more vibrant lifestyle. Our pieces and statements are bold but with good cause. When someone thinks to use the comment “BAD”, i want women to know thats a term of endearment and the power of being divine. I also want to change the way women view beauty. It comes in all shapes and sizes, and all skin tones. Not only am i trying to push those to love oneself but eventually I want to promote health and wellness with my athletic line. Each year i would love to donate to young farmers/gardeners to promote healthier eating in my community. Black and Divine is only 7 months old and we are growing with the seasons
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Being a fairly new business we run into many challenges. One challenge I have faced is trying to be the marketer, the blogger, the video vixen, fulfilling orders, and trying to connect with like-minded individuals. Juggling has been difficult but also fun because you get to learn different sides of your business. I hope to eventually outsource what i can and find new ways to grow.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a full-time business owner during the week and I work in the service industry as a bartender on the weekends. I wouldn’t be considered a gym rat but i do workout 3/4x a week and do yoga 2/3x a week. Yoga is my first love and i have been practicing for over 8 years. These hobbies inspired me to do an athletic line. Athletic apparel that is cute and made for those with curves. That is what sets me apart from the other brands, my athletic apparel is for those who have a bigger bust and a thicker thigh. Its made for those who love going to the gym and doing glutes and leg days.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
Unlike this new generation, my childhood memories were made outside. My mother worked multiple jobs so we spent lots of time with children in the neighborhood. My favorites memories is playing double-dutch with friends and going to the swimming pool.
