Meet River Ezra of Clarksville

Today we’d like to introduce you to River Ezra

Hi River, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
From a young age, I was fortunate enough to catch the eye of a BMI executive who invited me to sing for industry leaders in downtown Nashville. That early recognition opened doors and soon I found myself on nationwide tours, including the Vans Warped Tour, and even performing for my childhood idol, Britney Spears, on Fox’s 2013 X Factor. By the time I was 16, I was already making waves on global music charts.

Before the world slowed down due to the pandemic, I had the incredible opportunity to sign a production deal with Christos Gatzimos, an exceptionally talented producer and the son of country music legend Crystal Gayle. I’m thrilled to share that we’ll be releasing a song together, “Carpet Burn,” in January 2025.

My debut album, *The Party*, is set to drop later this year, between September and October. Alongside my music, I’m also excited about my upcoming podcast, *Flow with River Ezra*, where we’ll be chatting with amazing guests like Crystal Gayle, Jack the Underdog, and David Michael Frank.

Looking ahead, I’m already working on my sophomore album for a 2025-2026 release and delving into a poetry book paired with a spoken word album. When I’m not immersed in these projects, I cherish quiet moments with coffee or tea, exploring photography, and discovering new foods and places. Life is a whirlwind, but I’m grateful for every moment and always eager for the next adventure.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been marked by significant obstacles, including battles with bipolar disorder and osteonecrosis, as well as the heartbreaking loss of my partner, Eric Logan Webb. His memory profoundly influences my upcoming song “Carpet Burn” featuring Crystal Gayle, a tribute to his life.

I’ve faced some incredibly dark times. Prior to my bipolar diagnosis, I struggled with severe depression and turned to self-medication to cope with the trauma of domestic violence and abuse—physical, mental, and sexual. These experiences were incredibly challenging, but they have deepened my understanding of the human condition and the importance of compassion.

I firmly believe in the power of love and kindness. Everyone fights their own battles, often hidden from view. Embracing the golden rule—treating others as you wish to be treated—and allowing ourselves grace as we learn from our mistakes are vital principles. These values have guided me through my struggles and continue to inspire my approach to life and music.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m River Ezra, a pop artist from Nashville, Tennessee, and I’ve dedicated my music career to creating powerful, survivor-focused art. My experiences overcoming sexual assault, near-death encounters, and domestic violence deeply influence my music and advocacy for justice and support for others facing similar challenges.

As a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community, I actively advocate for equality and collaborate with organizations like the Trevor Project, NOH8, the ASPCA, and UNRWA. I’m committed to raising awareness for mental health issues and conflict zones, including fundraising for displaced Palestinians.

I’ve been honored to receive various awards for my music, which underscores my role in the pop scene. My production deal with Christos Gatzimos, the nephew of Loretta Lynn and son of Crystal Gayle, has allowed me to expand my reach while staying true to my mission.

My live performances include notable events like the Vans Warped Tour, Vidcon, and various concert benefits. I’ve had the privilege of sharing the stage with artists such as Lauren Pritchard, Norma Jean Martine, and Ernie Halter. A career highlight for me was performing for my childhood idol, Britney Spears. Additionally, I’ve played at major music and pride festivals and completed multiple nationwide tours.

Through my work, I strive to be a symbol of hope and strength, continually working to uplift and empower those who have endured hardship.

What does success mean to you?
For me, success is about finding inner peace and pursuing what I love without the shadow of fear or regret. It’s not just about accolades or milestones, but about embracing the journey with confidence and joy. Success means being at peace with my choices and living fully in the present, free from the anxiety of “what ifs” or the fear of failure. It’s about staying true to my passion, nurturing my creativity, and making a positive impact, all while enjoying the process and celebrating each step along the way.
