Community Highlights: Meet Jackie Palafox of Brazilian Wax By Jax

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Palafox

Hi Jackie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jackie & I’ve been a licensed Esthetician since 2011!! After graduating college with my Liberal Studies Degree,
I realized quickly that teaching wasn’t going to be the career for me. Not long after, I started my esthetics program and began waxing immediately! I started at an establishment where we were considered chain waxers, but I knew that I could be more successful on my own so since 2012 that’s what I’ve been doing! I had my full clientele in California up until October of 2023 when I decided to move to Nashville! Moving wasn’t an easy decision because of my business I had built, but I know with my experience and work ethic I can make it happen here as well! I met my fiancé online in 2020, who lived here in Nashville & after having a long distance relationship for about 3 years, it was time to do life together in the same city! I still make trips back every 5-6 weeks to California to take between 30-60 clients each visit who wait for me. Also, every couple visits in CA, I co-teach a Brazilian wax bootcamp class with an award winning Esthetican who I’ve been doing business with since 2012. I also try to cram in as much family and friend time while I visit California as time is so precious! I love Nashville and I know I can be successful here so I am excited to meet new clients & make it happen!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road! Some of my struggles of “starting over” have been my mediocre execution of social media, staying consistent with posts/reels, and really just becoming a content creator when I’ve never had to utilize Instagram as much in the past! I’ve had my instagram @brazilianwaxbyjax for over 10 years, but I didn’t keep up with the progression of it as it became so much more than just a post & hashtags! When I first started my business and was consistent with Instagram, everything about it was still fairly new and basic. Engaging with people in my area was a lot easier, so this leads back to me not being the best at keeping up with the trends of instagram and now it’s a whole different ball game with the algorithms. It’s definitely been a learning experience and one I’m still learning and working on!

Another struggle has been not yet knowing too many people in Nashville! When I first started my own business in 2012, my friends and family were (and always have been) my biggest supporters. I would tell all my closest friends and family to at least come get waxed one time and from there on out they were constantly referring people to come see me and I was blessed because it was truly a snowball effect. Word of mouth is really the best advertisement!

As you know, we’re big fans of Brazilian Wax By Jax . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I’ve been specializing in Brazilian waxing and full body waxing since 2011. I know many estheticians promote they specialize in Brazilian waxing, but I think what sets me aside from others is that I have over 12 years of experience. I am an educator in this service and I feel confident that I will provide the best results with each client. I’ve tried different waxes and products over the years and I know I use the best high quality products that make each service quick & efficient.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I feel that it’s important to always be personable, kind, & understanding to clients. I want to make everyone feel as comfortable as possible, especially if they are scheduled with me for a Brazilian wax. For some clients, it becomes routine and doesn’t phase them, but for others it’s still nerve wracking for them each visit. I’ve joked in the past that I’ve been many client’s personal therapist because we reach a level of vulnerability & trust where they know they can confide in me and my wax room is ultimately their safe space. I hope I can continue to build more relationships with future clients as well.
