Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Sergio
Hi Sabrina, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started working for Audacy (Entercom at the time) in 2018 as a sales assistant with no clear path of where I wanted to take my career. Upon Entercom acquiring WNSH-FM in February 2019, I saw that as an opportunity to take my love of country music and get involved with the station in any capacity that they’d let me. Working in the sales department, our Director of Sales asked me to present in our upcoming sales meeting what country music looks like here in NYC and reasons why we would be excited to have this new station in our cluster. After that meeting, progam director of the station John Foxx really took me under his wing and let me in on everything the station was involved in. That then led to having a segment on the morning show doing weekly “Bachelor Reports”, which turned into a recurring role on the morning show at WNSH-FM. Now, I have my own show 3-6p on the HD2 station that once was WNSH-FM
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely was not a smooth road. When WNSH-FM flipped in October 2021, I really wasn’t sure if I was going to have a path in the country music scene again. After talking with John Foxx and realizing the opportunity we had to keep the station alive digitally, we really worked on how to connect with that same audience again and bring in new listeners
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I host a country radio show on “New York’s Country 94.7” on the free Audacy app. I’m really proud of keeping a country music presence here in NYC and building relationships with people here in the city who share that same passion for country music. NYC has such a stereotype of being anti-country, but we’ve proved time & time again that country music has a large home in NYC and that’s not going anywhere
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Networking with people in the same space has absolutely been a benefit to my career. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the friends and mentors I’ve made along the way. Never be afraid to reach out to people and ask questions, it’ll only make you stronger
