Inspiring Conversations with Ursula Davi-myer of URStrong Fitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ursula Davi-myer

Ursula, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I vividly remember walking to school with my mom and sister through the bustling streets of New York City. Every morning, we passed a homeless man sitting quietly at the end of our block. Though we never exchanged words, my heart was inexplicably drawn to him. I felt a deep mix of pain, love, and empathy for this stranger. Then one day, he was gone. Day after day, his absence weighed on me, and I was left wondering what had become of him, knowing I’d never find out. It was in that moment, at the tender age of 7, that I experienced my first awakening. I realized that my purpose in life was to instill hope in others.

As the firstborn, I felt a deep responsibility to meet my parent’s expectations. With my mom being disabled, my parents divorced, my mom, sister and I moving to Florida, I took on the role of caring for her, all while striving to do the ‘right things’—going to college, earning degrees in psychology and mental health counseling, and working with nonprofit organizations that served those in need, including people affected by HIV/AIDS, homeless youth, and those struggling with substance abuse. I felt a profound connection to my clients and was committed to supporting them through their challenges.

After getting married and moving to California, I faced a new challenge: I couldn’t find a job. I volunteered with nonprofit organizations, but not being able to find a paying job took a toll on me, leading to depression. Recognizing that I needed an outlet, I began focusing on my personal fitness, which became a source of strength and clarity. This journey inspired me to pursue my personal training certification, marking a new chapter in my life.

After living in California for two years, we moved to Guam and then to Hawaii, I continued to thrive in my personal training career. But when I became a mom, my world turned upside down. I found myself wondering, ‘What am I going to do now? How can I focus on myself or my career with a baby?’ Seeking connection, I joined a mom group, and soon enough, the other moms were asking me to train them. This led to the creation of Strong Mommy Camp! In Hawaii, I built a successful business focused on training moms. My approach as a trainer was about more than just losing weight or inches—it was about fostering community and creating an environment where we could all feel good while getting our sweat on. Strong Mommy Camp became a place for moms to support each other, build strength, and prioritize overall well-being.

During our time in Hawaii, my mom moved to be closer to us and our two boys. She was with us for nine months, but then, suddenly and unexpectedly, she passed away. I came home one day to find her lifeless body in bed—she had gone to sleep the night before and never woke up. This moment shattered my world. Despite the shock, I immediately took on the responsibilities of funeral arrangements and planning, all while continuing to hustle and support others in their fitness journeys.

Over a year after her passing, I finally woke up to the realization that I needed to grieve. I had been giving so much of myself to others, fulfilling my purpose, but I had completely neglected my own grieving process. It was then that I decided to step back from training and take the time to reconnect with myself. I often say that it took over a year for me to recognize the gift my mom gave me in her passing—the gift of stepping off the hamster wheel of constant motion and returning to my truth.

In 2021, I embarked on a journey of self-healing and began practicing Kundalini yoga—a practice that became my lifeline during the grief and despair of losing my mom. Through this practice, I felt an incredibly deep connection to her, and I often refer to Kundalini yoga as the ‘tricky therapist,’ as it provided me with so many answers to questions and thoughts I had pondered for so long. This profound experience in coming home to my true self inspired me to get certified in Kundalini yoga and start teaching it.

In 2022, we moved to Franklin, Tennessee, where I now offer intuitive wellness coaching and teach Kundalini yoga online. Life has truly come full circle. What began as a journey through personal challenges, grief, and growth has evolved into a fulfilling path where I can share my healing experiences with others, supporting them in reconnecting with their own inner strength and wisdom. Through this work, I continue to honor the legacy of my mom, finding purpose and peace in the transformative power of wellness and connection.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every bump along the way has shaped who I am today. Growing up as the firstborn and a child of divorced parents, I felt a strong responsibility to meet my parent’s expectations and take care of my mom.

Over the past 15 years, I’ve lived in Florida, California, Guam, Hawaii, and now Tennessee, following my husband’s career in the construction industry. Each move has required me to reinvent myself, build new connections, and adapt to different environments. While it’s been challenging to leave behind some of my closest friends who have become like family, I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to experience life in such amazing places. In these moves I also faced the challenge of not finding a job, which led to a period of depression. I turned this struggle into a strength by pursuing a career change and getting my personal training certification.

Moving to Hawaii was another chapter of growth and challenge. While I was building my career, becoming a mom turned my world upside down. I struggled with balancing my new responsibilities with my desire to continue my career. But in the midst of this, I found a new purpose through Strong Mommy Camp, a community-focused fitness program that became a successful business in Hawaii.

Then, life threw me a devastating curveball when my mom moved to Hawaii to be closer to us and suddenly passed away. Finding her lifeless in bed was a moment that shook me to my core. This led me to Kundalini yoga, which became a crucial part of my healing journey. I felt a deep connection to my mom through this practice, and it inspired me to get certified and start teaching Kundalini yoga.
