Check Out Oliver Boyd’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Oliver Boyd

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
It all really started since when i was a baby and i sat in our living room watching U2 documentaries and learning rhythm from watching them. I got my first drum kit when I was 2 and picked up more instruments along the way. When covid hit I went online and just worked on writing little songs during that time period. In my Freshman year, I started putting them out on Soundcloud and they were all pretty well received by all my friends at my high school. I’d had a running deal with my parents that when I turn 16 I could release my music on all the big platforms, so I put out my first album “Better Days” on my 16th Birthday! Since then i’ve been playing local shows and released some more singles this year, and i’ve been working with friends and playing in their bands and producing for them!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I think it’s fair to say that i’m still starting out, even though i’ve been writing songs since i was 14. Since I’m still underage as i’m doing this interview, a big obstacle is booking shows. It’s harder than you think without a booking agent/manager.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am an artist and musician who’s currently a senior in high school. I spend all of my free time working on my music, listening to all music of different genres, and focusing on my next album which i’m hoping to release next summer.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I do wish that there were more venues that were easily accessible to up and coming artists. But I do love all the record shops and vintage stores. Me and my friends have gotten countless deals at some of those places.
