Today we’d like to introduce you to Tevyn Henry.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up playing soccer since I was 3 years old which ended up bringing me to play D1 at The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. This is where most of my cooking roots started to form. Having an apartment off campus, I learned to properly cook on my own and focus on various techniques. I even started selling little Mac & cheese plates to friends for fun. Then the pandemic hit, which was also my graduation year, so I ended up moving back home with my IT degree looking for a 9-5 job for various companies.
All while, I still continued to post my food on social media and get even more confident behind the stove. This brought some traction and an opportunity to start sharing my gift. Mid 2020, I started providing meal preps to people in the area to help them reach their fitness and nutritional goals. Word started to get out and I had more people ask for various food requests. Most restaurants at the time were still barely opening up, but people still wanted a way to celebrate and gather during the pandemic. From kids birthday parties, to couples anniversary dinners to family meals, I started to really network in the early stages. This is where Tev’s Table was born.
Fast forward a few years, I am blessed to say that it has turned into a full-time business and have served thousands of people all over the US. Our history and community is built around food. It’s how we fellowship and enjoy time with people we know and love. It connects people from all over the world and I couldn’t be more grateful for the opportunity to be apart of that. None of this would be possible though without God’s favor over my life, my parents, and everyone who I have been blessed to cross paths with. It’s a dream come true.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Life is never a smooth road! What would be the fun in that? There HAS to be struggle and pain. It’s how you grow, it’s how you build confidence, and it’s how you learn to appreciate life when it is smooth.
In the early stages, it is hard to see or understand why certain things happen to you. For me it was more exposure and resources. Thinking “if I just had more clients or more money everything would be fine.” Looking back, I didn’t even have the capacity to handle more than what was on my plate! I had to learn different systems and processes through time. Money wouldn’t have solved that. And customer acquisition is something every business wants to achieve more of. It’s part of the “business game” all entrepreneurs play. The beauty of culinary arts is that it teaches you to use what you already have and how to amplify it. So that’s exactly what I did.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
We bring the luxury dining experience straight to the doorstep. Through this experience you will taste, smell, & see our modern take on popular foods. Our service offers seasonal, personalized menus designed to suit the clients occasion and dietary requirements. Whether you are hosting a romantic dinner for two, an intimate gathering or large party, our private chef service will elevate your dining experience and make it an occasion to remember.
We specialize in all cuisines, but mainly modern European foods.
Particularly known for French omelettes and pasta.
Brand wise I am most proud of keeping things professional yet enjoyable. Fine dining should be fun, not intimidating. That’s the line I like to ride and get people comfortable with.
I want the readers to know that having a private chef come into your home can be one of the greatest decisions you can make. Giving up the responsibility of feeding people you love is a big task, but it helps relieve that pressure and stress to make sure you get the most out of entertaining your guests.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
The most important lesson I have learned is to be nice to people. To be human. I can’t count how many times I’ve had friends from high school or college reach out or pass along my business information just because I was a human to them and treated them fairly. Never burn bridges. This isn’t to say “only be nice to people to get something out of them” but it’s to emphasize the importance of collaboration and working together. Something we need more of in this world right now. I’ve learned to always approach things in a positive manner, you never know who is watching, who you can help or who is having a bad day. The Golden Rule we learned as kids has really stood the test of time.
