Today we’d like to introduce you to Kornrow Kween
Hi Kornrow , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Well I’ve been braiding since i was about 9 years old watching my mom do me and my little sisters hair. One day i jus woke up and was like “mama im going to do my own hair” because my mom was a little heavy handed and i didn’t always agree with the styles she did so i decided to do something about it! By the time i was in the 8th grade i was already braiding my whole head by myself and sometimes my friends as well. When i got in high school i kind of drifted away from that and got a job and started cheering and later on became a majorette for my high school. I met my oldest daughters dad and ended up becoming a teen mom by the time i graduated and i really didn’t think about braiding at all. I say about 2017/18 i went through the worst heartbreak with my second daughters dad i was so lost and that’s what pushed me to jus tap back into braiding. I moved to Atlanta to just focus on my mental health and to perfect my craft which i mastered! About 2019/20 i came back to Nashville and just hit the ground running really getting my name out there running specials sometimes doing styles for dirt cheap but i didn’t care because i knew word of mouth would eventually get me my people. i worked at a salon in the mall for about a year and then moved to a suite. I really missed being in a open floor salon so i moved to a salon and stayed there for a couple of years. After a while i started missing being by myself and giving my clients that intimate moment with me so i moved into a small suite and I’ve been there almost a year now. It hasn’t been easy at all but i make the best out of it and this is something i would do for free if i needed too to help others because i jus love braiding it’s therapeutic to me and helps me explore my talent! My pain turned into purpose n i love that for me
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh honey no it’s hasn’t been a smooth road at all! i had many many struggles along the way financially mentally physically emotionally AND socially, BUT one thing i can say is that god is so good and i know he’s the reason i am still here! Grateful for my struggles because it’s built me into who i am today 💜
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a licensed braider and i mainly specialize in protective styles such as knotless braids and that’s what i am most known for is my knotless braids and my boho twist (that are fire btw). Ahhhhh i love this question so much im most proud of ME i wanna thank ME lol no but seriously im proud of me and just how i keep going and jus dance to my own tune. I literally live in my own world. Im still trying to figure out what works for my brand in this industry because i jus feel like everybody needs to meet me and i haven’t met everybody that is going to really love my authenticity and creativity! I’m not really sure what sets me apart because we all are different but what i can tell you is that we gone have a good time while you are in my chair because i am a therapist a comedian a mom a friend a sister and i love to make people jus feel GOOD💜
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
My children matter to me the most because that’s the family that i created. I give them things i wish i had growing up and provide them with a safe space to just be themselves. My girls are my peace in the storm and my little snookiepookie babies i love them so much they really are the reason for all of this i love you nae bae and Poody pop 💕
