Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Moore Laura Dale
Elizabeth Moore, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We were both ready to re-enter the workforce after spending time at home raising little ones. We wanted a job that had flexibility and allowed us to be available to our children and families, with the potential for growth. I don’t know that either of us ever thought we would own and run a business, but what a wonderful adventure it has been! We say regularly, “well, that is a new thing we know how to do!”
Our company formed as we realized there was a market for both individuals and small businesses who needed an occasional assistant but couldn’t (or didn’t want to) hire one full time. I think our peers generally feel stretched thin working, raising children, helping their parents, volunteering at school/church and on any given day could use “an extra hand.” We realized this service model would appeal to many as we provide cost effective solutions for daily to-dos.
Our services and offerings have evolved as the needs of our clients have changed. We regularly ask for feedback to tailor our services to what our clients need.
Our gifting business has grown greatly over the past few years. We strive to keep easy, practical gifts stocked to grab for porch pick up or to ship to clients, friends, and family throughout the country. Our latest venture, a pop-up at Habit Boutique in Green Hills, will run through the end of 2024. We hope this will be a chance for new clients to see what we offer both product and service wise. Come see us!
Fun Fact: We joke that we are open 24 hours a day! Laura is an early bird and Elizabeth is a night owl so one of us is almost always working!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As we write this, we feel like we should be knocking on wood! Overall, we have been very fortunate as business owners. We have wonderful associates that work with us and very kind and grateful clients. Our biggest challenge has been balancing day to day work with building our business. We are so devoted to our clients that the larger vision for bits & bobs nashville occasionally falls to the end of the to-do list. Growing and expanding in an intentional way is always a goal for us.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about bits & bobs nashville?
From the old English saying, bits & bobs refers to the “odds and ends” we all need a hand with on any given day. As busy moms, we understand the value of an errand run, a gift delivered, or a task completed by a trustworthy assistant.
Founded in 2018 by Laura Dale and Elizabeth Moore, bits & bobs nashville grew out of a mutual affinity for organization, order, and multi-tasking. With five children between them at multiple schools, Laura and Elizabeth found themselves being pulled in many directions and needing an extra hand from time to time. Their friends were voicing the same sentiments. Considering all the commitments a modern mom juggles, Laura and Elizabeth saw a need they could fill. bits & bobs nashville hopes to tame the chaos that errands, disorganization, and busy schedules create for all of us.
Services offered include (but are not limited to): gifting (corporate & personal), children’s clothing consignment, editing/consolidating/digitizing Christmas card lists, email marketing, client management, home organization, & errand running.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
We have a big group of supporters that have allowed us to build and sustain our business. We would be remiss if we did not first acknowledge Elizabeth’s husband, John. He is our unofficial CFO, business strategist, and business advisor. He has a level head and has been our biggest cheerleader.
Next, our clients deserve a huge thank you for their referrals. For years, our business was almost exclusively built on referrals. We have many clients that have enthusiastically shared our business with their work teammates which allowed us to grow and evolve. Their incredibly gracious appreciation for the work we do allowed us to operate with almost no advertising budget.
Additionally, we have a small, but mighty group of women that work with us and help us to serve our clients. These amazing women balance client needs, deadlines, and budgets with ease and efficiency. We would not survive without these ladies!
Lastly, we have a long list of friends that are constantly sending us their ideas for new services we should provide, products we should sell, and new vendors to meet.
