Exploring Life & Business with Michael Frazier of Reverence Bourbon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Frazier

Hi Michael , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started the business in 2020. I started the business because I grew a liking to culture of bourbon. The idea came from me sitting in a cigar lounge one day. I was drinking bourbon and smoking cigars while enjoying the regal atmosphere and culture. It fits my personality being relaxed and laid back while enjoying a nice pour of bourbon. At that point I imagined creating my own bourbon and when I saw someone that looked like me create a spirit at that point I knew it was possible. So 2020, I registered the business and began doing distillery tours and tastings to develop my palate as well as my education of the Industry during that processI tried over 300 Bourbons and whiskeys and after that I felt, I had the pan and knowledge to create a premium quality Tennessee bourbon. In 2021, I launched in retail in the Nashville area. My first batch exceeded our projected sales expectations by 10 months and in the first six months, we had to go to an allocation for retail stores which made the product exclusive and a premium product.
As of now we’re on our third batch of production and each batch. We only make 1500 bottles or less, and we don’t make another batch until the previous batch has been completely depleted.

I created Reverence to pay homage to my childhood experience that forever changed my life. After the events of September 11th, my mother, serving in the military, was immediately deployed for active duty. My younger sister relocated to stay with their god mother and my older brother sacrificed playing football in high school to care for me while our mother was away. For a 12 year old, the experience was traumatizing emotionally at times, however it was the foundation and fabric of my character and work ethic today. This situation taught me how to endure hardships and overcome life’s adversities to reach personal goals and success. I believes “That success comes with hard work and perseverance through difficulties, and that we should celebrate every success in life. Therefore give Reverence.”

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been as smooth thus far which is expected. Keep in mind that we start the business during the pandemic so starting out, we had issues with inventory, supply chain, and availability of materials. I’ve also had issues gaining distribution and certain areas that have a high demand for Reverence bourbon. As any entrepreneur, the day-to-day micromanaging and making sure logistically the business operates efficiently. Logistics consist of bookkeeping, marketing, and the planning out any events and collaborations that we participate in. Starting a liquor brand takes a lover of labor and a commitment to being patient throughout the entire journey. So as for the hardships they are only lessons and building blocks to creating a great product and establishing a great brand and reputation amongst our customers and supporters.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Reverence Bourbon?
Reverence is a one of a kind bourbon. We are a craft bourbon meaning that we reproduce at a small quantity per batch for exclusive purposes. Although Tennessee is known for its Whiskey, what sets of support is that we are a Tennessee bourbon. Part of our process is that we do not outsource the local barrels used. Reverence is its own recipe has its own taste that cannot be duplicated or imitated based on the production process. What I am most proud about my brand is that people are appreciating the craftsmanship and the overall taste to the bourbon. People are also drawn to my story, which makes the Brand more intriguing and relatable.

Any big plans?
In the future , we plan to have more markets for retail and add more distribution channels outside of the state of Tennessee We also doing a lot of collaborations to attract tourist to experience Reverence bourbon In different facets throughout the city of Nashville. We are partnering with a couple of tourist organizations and hospitality agencies to bring more awareness to the brand and to reach the tourist market in Nashville.
