Check Out Aimee Nielsen’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aimee Nielsen

Hi Aimee, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My story begins in Iowa, where I am originally from. I grew up in a small town where I was always playing sports and was involved in music at a young age-choir, violin and piano. Before pursuing some of my creative endeavors more seriously, I had gotten a track and cross country scholarship at the University of South Dakota, went to law school , and after that practiced law for a long while in Miami, FL. When I was in Miami, I got involved in creative circles there and I started sewing my own clothes. I randomly applied to the top fashion schools not really expecting to get in, and I got into all of them. I decided to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City to get a degree in fashion design and art. Since that time, I built the ‘Aimee Nielsen’ and ‘Nielsena Sport’ brands as menswear and womenswear mixed ready-to-wear, accessories, couture and custom clothing that I design and hand sew myself. Most recently, my collection was shown on the runway at London Fashion Week. I hope one day to expand into footwear as I attend the University of the Arts in London for footwear design after I had left my litigation career in Miami. Over the years I have also created custom art pieces consisting of paintings and also mixed-media art pieces. Most recently, I completed a custom art piece made of thousands of guitar-picks.
I was doing so many other things in life that I had stopped doing my music for a really really long time. It got to a point for me that I not only missed it so much but getting back to my music and writing songs became a way for me to cope with life and tribulations. I finally left my litigation career in Miami and made the move to Nashville, TN to pursue my music. Most recently on September 6 I released my first EP album called “High Hopes, Pt. 1”. It is a 4 song EP and the first of two parts inspired by love, loss, certain life struggles, healing, and overall having high hopes for people in different situations, only to be let down. The album leans towards the country/americana/rock music genre. It’s available now to listen/purchase everywhere where you get your music. I look forward to continuing to create music, art, and fashion as it brings me so much happiness and makes me feel complete in that I am contributing to something in the universe much bigger than myself.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Honestly, nothing about my creative journey has been easy. There are a lot of ups and downs always. And unfortunately, there is a lot of unkindness in the entertainment industries (all of them) and just certain things that would make a person with a faint heart quit instantly. I wish I could say that attempting to do things in the entertainment industry was for the faintest hearts, but it is not. And believe me, many times I’ve wanted to throw in the towel. But I just try to always keep grounded and focused on my faith, my gifts, and finding the joy in the creative endeavors I love so much in making music, art, and designing fashion rather than getting caught up in external noise. For me, if you stay focused on your own creative path, stay in your own lane, surround yourself with supportive people, and always do what feels right for only you it is easier to deal with letdowns.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Regarding my fashion I design menswear and womenswear mixed ready-to-wear, accessories, couture and custom clothing that I design and hand sew myself. In the future, I would like to expand to footwear. When I was in New York City for fashion school I got involved in as many fashion shows to show my designs as I could. Those experiences led me to be able to show my designs at London Fashion Week. Since, that time my designs have been featured in numerous magazines and graced celebrities and musicians. I will begin to work on a new collection soon. Concerning my paintings/mixed media art, I love doing custom pieces for people and when I have time working on art series pieces. Lately, I have been really getting into creating art with guitar picks and most recently created a large custom piece made of guitar picks. With my music, I just released an EP album called “High Hopes, Pt. 1”. It is a 4 song EP of the country/americana/rock genre. In the next few months I’ll begin working on the 2nd “High Hopes” EP. Getting back to my music has made me so happy and getting back to playing my piano, guitar, and violin. Most recently, I have been picking up playing the banjo which I’m super excited about.
With all my creative endeavors I think I am most proud of myself for putting myself out there in very vulnerable creative spaces and not surrendered when it hasn’t been the easiest. Honestly, music has felt the most vulnerable for me so I am proud that I have listened to my inner voice telling me to keep going and that I have written all these songs for a reason. At multiple points in time, I didn’t know how to sew, I didn’t know how to sketch, didn’t know how to play the guitar and I have just kept plugging away honing in my crafts and haven’t given up. I think what sets me apart from others is my creative individuality. At the end of the day, I only know how to be authentically myself and to create music, art, and designs that reflect my own thoughts, experiences and style. I will never try or want to be anything other than myself.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I think creative collaborations are good and important for artists and would love to do more of that with people who are positive and with similar visions. I have already written songs that are meant to be duets, so I’d love to collaborate with someone in that regard. I think overall people can be supportive of artists by positive comments or purchasing something the artist makes. Positiveness and support in an often dark world goes a long way for creatives that many don’t realize. It definitely means a lot to creatives like myself.
