Community Highlights: Meet Blake Harris of Music City Muscle

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Harris

Hi Blake, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Absolutely! I am born and raised in Nashville. My background is Football. I won a state title in high school at Goodpasture High School. I played college ball at Tennessee State University, and after college, I played Professional Arena football. Upon retirement, I leaned on what I knew the most about. I worked at a local nutrition store, while falling in love with personal training and coaching group fitness classes. Now I own the #1 Strength and conditioning gym in the city.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s been far from smooth. There have have been a lot of failures and set backs along the way. I don’t come a legacy of successful business owners in my family. Just figuring it out hasn’t been easy, but the biggest struggle happens between my ears, I’m my own worst critic. The concept of the vitality of an entire community on your shoulders is a lot of pressure, but very rewarding. The struggles feel massive in the moment, but it’s all a part of the growth. Getting to live out your dream doesn’t come without a struggle. Failure is a learning experience

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We were voted Nashville #1 Strength and Conditioning gym, The vision was to bring a hardcore lifting environment to the Music City, while make the atmosphere approachable for beginners to learn. It is an inclusive facility that brings people of all walks of life under one roof and we are united by strength.

I am also the host of a local podcast that just launched, called Music City Mindset. We sit down with people who are pivotal in growing Nashville, but that aren’t from here. We dive into their mindset switch to move to Nashville and make their dreams come true. Answering, “Why Nashville?””

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
I wish I would’ve have been able to go back and not be so devastated by failures. Now I enjoy experiencing failure because of what I learn from them.
