Check Out Quinton Kufahl’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Quinton Kufahl

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey into drumming began at age 5, and became serious once I entered Middle School at age 11 when I enrolled into band class and fortunately, private drum lessons. I became obsessed with drumming and everyday after school would practice for about 3 hours all the way through High School, which is where a lot of my skills were formed. During this time I was trying to form bands to play the Talent Show circuit and met two of my best musical friends who I will talk about later in this answer.

When I was 17, I joined a working KISS Tribute Band, and learned so much about how live shows are conducted and made a lot of connections in not only my local (hometown) Milwaukee, WI music scene but the Worldwide KISS Tribute scene thanks to Facebook Groups.

After my High School Graduation, I continued to join various successful local cover bands and other KISS Tribute bands, while also creating music with my friends, as well as beginning to teach Drum Lessons, and even Roadie for Wisconsin’s top Rock Cover Band.

Through all of this work and networking I was able to join The World’s Best KISS Tribute Band in 2017, and be a member of that outfit until the end of 2022, when I decided to leave and pursue being an extensive touring drummer for Original Bands, as opposed to working primarily weekends with Cover/Tribute Groups.

This decision led me to move to Nashville, TN where I am currently teaching drums virtually and attracting a few fill in gigs with established Cover/Tribute Bands. In June of 2023, I started working with Halocene who tour the US and EU/UK. As well as, consistent Music Video releases and weekly Twitch Streams.

As 2023 came to a close, I unmasked my own band, IDOL, with my two best musical friends who I mentioned previously. IDOL is a Dark Deco band, conceptualizing a fictional Noir, based in reality. We’ve consistently released new singles every 8 weeks in this Superhero/Supervillain Origin Story, with our final Chapter releasing on October 18th, 2024. My band encompasses everything I’m passionate about and stand for when it comes to my eclectic musical tastes, humanitarian beliefs and epic visuals.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve been fortunate in that I’ve never been “out of work” in my 12 years of professionally performing and being a musician. That doesn’t mean that I didn’t have a day job at times, however. But, overall, yes a smooth road. If there was a lull, I would hold up in my practice area and woodshed so I felt ready for the next thing that would come along. Preparation meeting opportunity. My ears and eyes are always open to for work of any kind relating to music and entertainment, so I could apply to those opportunities.

Of course there are always people in the wings ready to share their unsolicited opinions, which can be trying at times, because as an artist, I believe we all hope everyone will like what we’ve created given how much heart and soul went into any piece. At the end of the day, though, what matters is if I believe in my work, and the right people who want it in their life will find it.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m most notably known as a Drummer. At this point in my life, I perform on tour, or in fill-in situations, or for hometown one-off shows. The touring opportunities are with, Halocene, a female fronted metal band. in my time with the band, we have toured the US three times, and Europe & United Kingdom twice. Fill- in situations have been most notably with That Arena Rock Show, a tribute to 70’s & 80’s arena rock, while other gigs funnel in here and there. Hometown shows are mostly as my, Solo Drum Show, a solo act where I bring the drums from the back of the stage and into the spotlight, highlighting some of music’s most celebrated drummers from bands like, Avenged Sevenfold, Dream Theater and Rush, to name a few.

Currently, I’ve been focused on promoting my new band, IDOL. We have written a concept album about the origins of a hero and villain, where the musical elements describe the feel of the main points of the story that the music videos show. I’m incredibly proud of my band, as it has been written subconsciously for the past eight years. It’s very autobiographical to my life.

What sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to be myself, and stand my ground in doing so, while building a brand. I am an over the top player and performer who plays in your face licks, while flipping sticks, and present what I believe a rockstar to be. I am the people’s drummer and I want to give the people entertainment they deserve.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I’ve been fortunate to have lived a pretty amazing childhood, so it is hard to pick one favorite memory. Today my favorite memory would have to be building blanket forts in my room. As I write this, it is a rainy day, and when I was a child, if the weather was gloomy, I would build a fort; very elaborate layouts, with multiple “rooms”, and I felt like it was my own place. I’ve always longed to be able to have a home that I truly felt was my own, and as a kid, that was the closest I could get. I would hang out in the fort, draw, fantasize and dream. It was a sanctuary of sorts, and while I don’t do that anymore (although I did try a few years ago with little success), I believe that same mentality is put to use in my creative endeavors being for IDOL, or Drum Solos, and Dual Drum Covers.
