Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Tinnan
Hi Elizabeth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I was introduced to the idea of horseback archery in late 2014. Until that time, I had not done any discipline specific riding or competing. I immediately fell in love with the sport and wanted to share my excitement with others. I started my club, Chattahoochee Horse Archers, in 2016 and began teaching clinics and lessons. I have since taught hundreds of clinics and competed all over the United States. Internationally, I have competed twice in South Korea, twice in Mongolia and once France.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Unless you are looking for more of a life story [some might find that interesting], I will talk about some setbacks I experienced during my archery journey.
In early 2016, I broke my leg in a non archery related riding accident requiring surgery and hardware to repair. I started my club and business while laid up after surgery. I went through a divorce in 2017 and moved to Tennessee in 2019. I fractured my leg again later in 2019 while competing in South Korea, which began a 9 month diagnosis and healing process. Then, of course, COVID happened in 2020. Initially, the pandemic impacted my clinics and lessons, but I feel later helped to get people outside where they might come to find me.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in horseback archery lessons, clinics and training. I teach and compete all over the US while wearing many hats in the MountedArcherycommunity. I am President of Mounted Archery Association of the Americas, our national organization, Board member of the International Horseback Archery Alliance, a Level 4 IHAA Judge, and owner of Chattahoochee Horse Archers, Inc. I am a Mother, a parnter and a business owner. I somehow manage this all while holding the number 1 spot on the United States National Ranking List. I take pride in my teaching and communication ability, both with horses and with people. I would have never imagined I would become a teacher or instructor, much less a highly competitive athlete.
