Hi Amanda, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Palmingo Pools was a lingering idea for years before I launched the business! Previously, I co-owned an event management and production company and we worked closely with construction companies on ground-breaking, grand openings, and the like. I often drew parallels between events and construction – as they both revolve around project management, trusted partnerships, and seeing a vision through to the end result. Our day to day work is strikingly and surprisingly similar between events and construction.

The idea of Palmingo Pools took shape when I moved into my hillside home in 2016. Our realtor told us that it would be impossible to put in a pool, which drove off other buyers. My nature is to turn a “no” into a “how.” I started researching options in middle Tennessee for sloped yards. What I found was a variety of pool builder websites that all bled together and only showcased overpriced projects on spanning flat yards. There was a clear shortage of options for sloped yards or smaller yards, which are plentiful in Nashville and the surrounding areas.

I had a gut feeling that I would be starting a pool business. The name came to me almost instantly. Pools should be dreamy and after hearing horror story after horror story about pool builders, I wanted to deliver a dreamier experience as well. What are the two dreamiest words I can think of? Well, as a mom of three young daughters, “palm tree” and “flamingo” rank among the top. Smoosh them together and vualá – Palmingo Pools. I pinpointed the name within moments.

Now, we’re four years in and working with incredible homeowners in Nashville, Brentwood, Oak Hill, Forest Hills, Franklin, and beyond! Our thoughtful project approach has also opened the door to larger scale projects for large, flat yards as well as more complex conditions. We deliver dreamier pools for happier homeowners through our turnkey approach – from design and permitting through installation and all finishes.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Our keys to forging a smooth road have been problem solving through obstacles, learning and evolving through each project, and simply being genuinely good people doing good work. We don’t expect an easy road, but we’re a team of people who can navigate through the muddiest of conditions.

I’m a measured risk taker, but not a reckless risk taker. Measured risk requires us to be honest, humble, curious, and analytical, as well as brave, resourceful, excited, and persistent. A measured risk approach inspires confidence instead of brushing uncertainty under the rug. Identifying and filling in blindspots is critical for measured risk, yet it also requires a potentially uncomfortable level of self awareness and situational awareness.
