Daily Inspiration: Meet Harley Johnson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harley Johnson

Hi Harley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It started in college, where I found a few of my hobbies. Country line dancing, graphic design and being creative. Between multiple student organizations, capturing fun activities, and more, it was an outlet to really express myself, bringing things to life. It was always just a hobby and something I did to help friends. I never imagined it turning into my business. Especially after getting out of the Marine Corps!

Throughout my time in the Corps, I was the one who always took the photos, videos, etc even as an Artilleryman, my eye for it all was where I thrived for years. While I was on deployment, knowing I was departing soon from the Corps, I decided to launch my business, Misschif Media, to make my transition out of the military smoother. Finally turned my hobbies into a way of life and it was one of best decision I’ve made.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I will say it hasn’t been easy, because I’m still learning every day. Some people are extremely critical, or easier to work with than others.

Biggest curve ball is learning when people are just using you and you’re “just the girl who shows up with a camera,” to realizing some people do appreciate your work and what you do. The hardest pill to swallow was recognizing my worth and how much stuff I’ll put up with even if means potentially sacrificing.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in a few things…

I’m a country dance instructor and have taught for 3 years now. Ranging all the way out to Japan, to numerous states here.

I’m a graphic designer who’s still learning a lot especially with the world of social media now. It has 110% changed since I started in 2014. It’s a challenge learning and trying to stick out, but it’s worth it.

My favorite is my newly speciality with photography & videography. I LOVE working with singer song writers mainly, but regardless music is where my heart is. I also specialize with small businesses and the dance community as well.

What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Just “being a decent effing human.” It’s my motto for everything in life and has been for years. You have the good, the bad and the ugly, but staying true to yourself and just being able to give grace goes a long way.
