Check Out Neelam Justine’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Neelam Justine

Hi Neelam, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My musical journey started in the songwriting circles of Orange County, California, where I found my voice blending pop rock melodies with soulful, acoustic guitar. Inspired by early 2000s punk rock and alternative bands like No Doubt, Paramore, and singer-songwriters like Sheryl Crow and John Mayer, I wanted to the boundaries of my music with a bold, unapologetic artistic vision.

From those early days of songwriting to now releasing my debut studio album, it’s been a whirlwind of evolution. My music has grown, but at its core, I still stay true to the pop punk and rock influences that first ignited my passion. The album reflects that – it’s a mix of candid, edgy lyrics and dynamic vocal performances that have connected me to audiences across generations.

Through it all, I’ve held onto the grit of my acoustic beginnings, balancing raw emotion with polished arrangements. I see my music as a colorful sonic experience, and I’m excited to keep sharing that energy with the world. Lol

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. This journey began in the wake of losing two family members, who were not only incredibly close to me but were also key parts of my musical world—one a drummer and the other a sound engineer. Writing music became my way of coping with the overwhelming grief. I felt like they were supposed to be here, making music with me, but I had to move forward on my own. This project became a way to honor their memory and keep going despite the pain.

When I eventually found my support system in Nashville, I was fortunate to connect with an amazing group of musicians who helped me heal in ways I never expected. They became my family, and their presence filled a void I thought could never be replaced. But then, unexpectedly, I lost one of them too. It felt like losing a superhero—a person who grounded the group and helped me through some of the darkest moments.

Each of these losses felt like a lightning strike, but through it all, I’ve found strength in the love and support of those still here with me. This journey has been filled with both heartache and healing, but every step has shaped the music and the story I’m telling today.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My work as a singer-songwriter is rooted in raw emotion and storytelling, blending pop rock melodies with soulful, dynamic vocals. I’m known for drawing inspiration from early 2000s punk rock and alternative bands like Paramore and Coldplay, as well as iconic singer-songwriters like Sheryl Crow and John Mayer. My music offers a unique mix of edgy, candid lyrics with powerful vocal performances that connect with listeners across generations.

What truly sets me apart is the deeply personal nature of my journey, which drives the heart of my music. After losing two family members who were pivotal to both my life and my musical path, I channeled that grief into my solo project. Each song became a form of therapy, a way to cope and heal. In fact, I refer to the seven tracks on my project as my ‘7 stages of grief,’ each serving as a lullaby that comforted me during my hardest days. The energy of each song is distinct, reflecting the unpredictable nature of grief—it’s not a linear process, and it doesn’t look the same for everyone. Some days are heavy, others more hopeful, and that emotional range is reflected in the music.

I’m excited to announce that my third single, ‘Hope You’re Happy,’ will be released on September 20th. It’s the third single from this entire project, and it captures yet another stage of the emotional journey I’ve been on.

This project has become more than just a creative outlet—it’s an homage to those I’ve lost and a platform for authentic self-expression. I’m proud of how my music has transformed my personal pain into something that connects with others, providing light and strength through shared experiences.

The support of my band, family, friends, and everyone involved in this project has helped me heal and grow in ways I never expected. Their love and presence have been a vital part of the process, and together, we’ve created something truly unique. Every performance and every song is a reflection of that emotional connection, and I believe that’s what sets me apart from others in the industry.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I see the music industry continuing to evolve over the next 5-10 years, with a strong shift toward independent artists having more control over their careers and creative journeys. The rise of social media and digital platforms has already started to level the playing field in terms of giving artists the tools to market themselves, reach new audiences, and release music on their own terms. I think this trend will only get stronger, as more artists realize that they don’t need to rely on traditional record labels to succeed.

While the new wave of social media marketing can feel overwhelming—especially because artists are now also expected to be brand managers and business owners for their “artist” brands—it’s also an incredible blessing. Artists can take full control of their creativity, shaping how their stories are told and how they connect with their fans. They have direct access to their audiences, which allows for a more genuine connection and the ability to reach people they might not have been able to otherwise.

The industry is leaning more and more in favor of the artist, empowering musicians to embrace their entrepreneurial side. As this shift continues, I think we’ll see more artists thriving independently, using social media and digital tools to create sustainable careers without the constraints of traditional industry structures. It’s an exciting time to be a musician because of the freedom and opportunities that come with it.
