Life & Work with Lexie Skipper of Nashville, TN

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lexie Skipper

Hi Lexie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for fashion and styling has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. Growing up, I loved curating a unique wardrobe that allowed me to express myself and tell stories through my outfits. Fashion has always felt like a natural creative outlet for me. I kept up with the latest trends, read fashion magazines, suggested pieces to friends, and wore what made me feel confident—even if it was different from what others chose. This journey taught me a lot about self-confidence and how to stand out. I was often the one in sparkles, glitter, and vibrant colors while everyone else wore neutrals, and that aspect of my personality still shines through my style today.

In early 2024, I moved to Nashville, where I’ve had the chance to style celebrities, country music artists, influencers, podcast hosts, and award show presenters. This city has unlocked new potential for me, and I often tell people that life in Nashville is unlike anywhere else I’ve lived, including New York and Atlanta. The community, creative energy, and connections here are truly unmatched.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
My biggest personal challenge has been not having a degree in fashion. Although I’ve always been passionate about it, I wasn’t sure how to pursue that passion. Growing up as a competitive cheerleader, I initially thought that would be my career path after college. However, my passions ultimately converged, leading me to the cheerleading fashion industry. Years later, I unexpectedly found myself at alice+olivia, a role that has shaped my journey. I’ve gained experience in various areas, including sales, celebrity styling, customer relations, influencer marketing, and events. Working in fashion isn’t always glamorous; the hard work and dedication required to be a personal stylist often go unnoticed. Each client brings a unique style, and helping them feel like the best version of themselves while exuding confidence through their clothing is incredibly rewarding.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the personal shopper for the New York-based women’s fashion brand alice+olivia. My goal is to help every client feel empowered and confident in their style. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is telling stories through fashion. I specialize in guiding clients out of their comfort zones while staying true to themselves. Building relationships, connecting and understanding my clients is the foundation of my work.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in Lexington, South Carolina, where I began competing in cheerleading at age 5. This experience was pivotal in building my self-confidence. Performing in front of large crowds and being part of a team shaped who I am today. I later cheered at the University of Louisville, where I earned three national titles, two world championships, and two Team USA world championships.

After college, I landed my first job in Atlanta, Georgia, with a company focused on cheerleading shoes and apparel. Although cheerleading had always been my passion, I found myself drawn more to wardrobe styling and helping friends as a creative outlet. Along the way, I met inspiring individuals who encouraged me to step beyond the cheerleading world and embrace the fashion retail industry. This transition proved to be transformative for my career.

I spent nearly eight years in Atlanta, connecting with fantastic clients, mentors, and industry creatives. A highlight was a summer in East Hampton, New York, with alice+olivia, where I was selected among a small group to run our seasonal location. This experience boosted my confidence, especially since I had never lived in the North before. I thrive on challenges, and this opportunity took me to new heights.

Earlier this year, I took a leap of faith and moved to Nashville, which has been the most rewarding chapter of my journey so far. I’m deeply grateful for the incredible people in my life who have always supported me in pursuing my dreams and following a path that feels so natural to me.
