Hi Agam, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Let’s start by saying that at no where in my career development plan in high school did I think I would end up doing what I do now. As I transitioned into my late 20s and early 30s, I started noticing the inevitable changes in my body—age spots, wrinkles, and random body hair growth. At the same time, I had achieved several milestones in my career, earning an MBA and excelling in high-pressure roles in strategy and marketing within the automotive and legal industries. Yet, despite these accomplishments, I found myself feeling burnt out, unfulfilled and incapable of relaxing. In March 2020, just days before the country shut down, I made a drastic change—I moved from Philly to Nashville without a job.

After months of COVID isolation, I enrolled in a course called The Science of Well-Being, which helped me reassess what truly mattered to me. Along the way, I became more attuned to a growing issue—loneliness, particularly among men. This sparked an idea: Could we create a space where men could not only escape but also address their body care needs, helping them feel more confident and comfortable in their own skin, ultimately empowering them to connect with others?

This is what led to the fusion of “Manscape + Escape,” evolving into what is now Menscape.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Simply put, hell no. The journey has been anything but smooth—full of mistakes, tough decisions, high hopes, and crushing setbacks. The biggest shock has been discovering that entrepreneurship, especially when building something completely unique, is one of the loneliest paths to walk. You realize even amongst your loving friends and family that they sew doubt in your plans when you do something that is truly “different” because like most, people revert back to what they know rather than what “could be.” But with every challenge came valuable growth.

When we started in December 2021, we faced a lot of hurdles due to my own inexperience in the spa industry. I’m not an esthetician myself, so I had to approach things thoughtfully and as a customer. Finding skilled estheticians willing to work exclusively with men at an unestablished business, especially during COVID, was incredibly difficult. Securing a location was another challenge, as prime spots were being snatched up by large corporations. In fact, I stumbled upon our current location by chance during an afternoon run.

Beyond the logistical hurdles—like navigating regulations and finding our target market in a city where no one does exactly what we do—there was the constant anxiety of simply not knowing enough. But through all the challenges, the biggest lesson has been the importance of listening and adapting. Instead of assuming we knew the answers, we focused on understanding what our clients and our team really needed, and that’s been our guiding principle.

Nestled just off Music Row, our lounge captures the essence of Nashville, blending the intimate atmosphere of a speakeasy with the creative vibe of a recording studio. We offer local bourbon to further enhance the experience ensuring that your experience is as unique and authentic as the city itself.

We also care deeply about sustainability. We use American-made, professional additive-free products and partner with local businesses like One Drop Ink and PazonaMD. Recycling gloves and waxing tins through Terracycle and donating sheets to the Nashville Humane Association are just small examples of our dedication to community and environmental responsibility. We aspire to become a green-certified business because we believe even small steps toward sustainability can make a big impact on the planet.
