Daily Inspiration: Meet Sarah Paige

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Paige

Hi Sarah, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve spent the past eight years performing and writing music. The beginning was mostly recording covers in my bedroom and posting them to YouTube. I wrote a lot of songs trying to understand my mental health, which is something I still do.

The thought of performing in front of a crowd seemed so terrifying, but when I started playing live, I fell in love. It’s funny because I’ve always hated public speaking, but performing is so different for me. I’m my true self doing what I love the most.

I released my debut EP this past July and went on a week long tour-something I never thought possible. After touring, I moved to Nashville and have been living here for the past two months. I’ve only just started the beginning of this chapter in my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
You’re running your own business as an independent artist. I’m a singer-songwriter, but I’m also a manager, booker, and promoter. I do my own marketing and content strategy, and even some graphic designing.

It took about nine months of planning to go on a seven day tour. I had to figure out the dates that worked best for my band and aligned with the release of my EP, plan the route and stops, reach out to so many venues (only to never hear back), find local artists to play with, design show flyers, secure transportation and lodging, and account for expenses like gas, food, hotels, and compensating my band for their hard work and talent. While I was working on tour logistics, I was recording and planning the release of my EP, and working a full-time job while gigging on the weekends to be able to fund the whole project.

I would love to only be responsible for writing and performing, but that’s just not the reality as an independent artist. It’s definitely a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding to see everything come together.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m beyond proud of my EP ‘London Lane.’ A collection of seven songs that has been a labor of love over the course of many years. I wanted to tell a story that was completely vulnerable and honest. Finally releasing it feels like a dream come true.

My greatest passion is helping others, so while I pursue music because it’s something I love, knowing that one of my songs may help someone is what truly keeps me going. I’m currently in grad school studying clinical mental health counseling, and I hope to utilize the therapeutic value of songwriting in my practice.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Most people not involved in the music industry don’t realize the amount of work that goes on behind the scenes. I’ve been so lucky to have a support system to get me through every step of the way. Whether it’s listening to something new I’ve written or helping with videos and artwork, I’m so grateful for my friends and family who have stuck by my side throughout this incredible journey.
