Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan T Jacobs
Hi Ryan T, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well I was born and raised in Oregon but I lived in Europe (Northern Ireland, France and Germany) for seven years and have also spent about two years off and on in Mexico. I like to look at the world through other points of view and that’s part of why I got my degree in Romance Languages (French & Spanish) and made sure to learn German when I lived in Berlin for four years. I started writing songs and playing my own music while living in Berlin and then moved to Portland, OR when I returned to the US and started to pursue music more intentionally. I moved to Nashville in October of last year to continue that pursuit of music both as a songwriter and artist.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For me, I think smooth road and struggles can be a perspective thing a lot of the time. It’s been a smooth road in the sense that every day is filled with expected new challenges and I look forward to them daily. One of the main deciders in moving out here was that if I was still back in Oregon, I would more or less have known what most days would look like. Here I of course know what my day will look like in the sense that I know I’ll be playing music on Broadway and writing/co-writing but within those two activities there’s so much room for nuance and variation that it feels practically infinite at the moment. The main struggles this year would be shedding relationships that no longer aligned with me and that I lost one of my rescue dogs, Don Francis, who I had taken care of for twelve years.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m an artist/writer here in town and had a band I founded called Pulp Western back in Oregon before I moved out to Nashville. We played together for about a year and within that year we were able to book a slot at the Oregon Jamboree festival with the likes of Cody Johnson, Lainey Wilson and Ashley McBryde among others.
I have a debut album coming out this year so stay tuned for that!
I just celebrated my first year anniversary of moving here and in that first year was very grateful to be able to play two of my bucket list venues: The Bluebird Cafe and The Listening Room.
I’d say what sets me apart from others is just what sets us all apart: my unique point of view. I’ve traveled a lot and speak different languages and it would seem that’s not your quintessential country singer bio but sometimes you have to go the long way around to find the beauty in something that was with you the whole time. I’d say that’s part of what makes me unique.
What does success mean to you?
I think if I’m following my passion, allowing myself to be misunderstood/not feel like I have to explain everything, giving myself permission to do whatever it is I feel called to do, staying in alignment with who I feel need to be and not following trends to fit in, then that would be success for me. Success for me is what’s in my control. I can’t control results, I can only control my efforts.
