Today we’d like to introduce you to Savannah Maddison
Savannah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Absolutely, I’d love to share my journey. My passion for working with children has always been at the forefront of my life. Before founding Southern Sitters, I was the CEO and Founder of a national 501(c)(3) organization, where I had the privilege of motivationally speaking to over a million children across the United States. This experience solidified my desire to pursue an entrepreneurial path that would positively impact future generations and families.
Recognizing a significant gap in the childcare market in 2018, I founded Southern Sitters. I saw firsthand the challenges Nashville parents faced with existing options—either high placement fees through agencies or wading through countless unqualified candidates on apps. This frustration sparked my vision to create a solution that merges the convenience of a booking app with the thorough vetting and training of an elite agency.
It all began when I launched a small Facebook page at age 17 for local parents to book babysitters. The response was overwhelming, leading us to develop an app that transformed how families access childcare. Our mission is to provide dependable, flexible, and secure babysitters and nannies to our families!
I’m incredibly proud of our team, especially our exceptional Southern Sitter babysitters and nannies, whose dedication is invaluable. Each caregiver serves around 5-8 families weekly, and their impact extends beyond our growth to the families they support. I truly cherish every moment of this journey and am excited about the positive change we continue to foster in our community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but I’ve learned so much along the way. I firmly believe that making mistakes is an essential part of the journey. Each setback has been a valuable learning opportunity, and I’ve embraced them as stepping stones to growth.
I also prioritize seeking advice and mentorship from others, which has been crucial in navigating challenges. This mindset has allowed us to turn every roadblock into a learning experience that propels us to the next level.
As a woman in business, it’s vital to have that inner fire and passion, and not to fear falling. I’m incredibly grateful for our amazing team; their support and insights are instrumental in pushing us forward. Together, we learn, adapt, and grow, continuously striving to improve our services and impact!
As you know, we’re big fans of Southern Sitters. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Southern Sitters is an app-based babysitting and nanny service that was founded right here in Nashville. Since our inception, we’ve placed thousands of caregivers and nannies for families across the Southeast. While we started small, our growth has been fueled by the dedication of talented women in leadership and the incredible caregivers who join our team.
What sets us apart is our unwavering commitment to quality. All of our caregivers are fully vetted, background checked, CPR certified, and SIDS certified, among other qualifications. This rigorous vetting process is at the core of our values and ensures that families receive only the best care.
We specialize in connecting families with caregivers for both one-time babysitting needs and ongoing nanny placements. Each caregiver we work with is exceptional, providing a level of service that truly stands out.
I’m most proud of the reputation we’ve built around our brand. Families trust us not just for the convenience of our app, but for the reliability and quality of our caregivers. I want readers to know that Southern Sitters is more than just a service; we’re a community dedicated to enhancing the lives of families and caregivers alike. Our mission is to make childcare accessible, dependable, and truly exceptional!
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is family and the safety of our children. My own family has been a driving force behind my desire to develop Southern Sitters into a brand that protects and supports other families. I’ve heard too many heartbreaking stories about parents who have had negative experiences with unvetted babysitters found on social media. It’s devastating to see families struggling to find reliable childcare, sometimes even losing their jobs because of it. I’m committed to changing that narrative in every community we serve.
In addition to my role as CEO, I’m also a volunteer firefighter and an AEMT. This experience has given me a firsthand look at the critical importance of safety. As a firefighter, I’ve witnessed tragic situations where children have been hurt in my community, and those experiences stay with me. That’s why we ensure that every caregiver is CPR-certified, fully vetted, SIDS certified, and thoroughly trained.
At the core of our mission is the belief that every family deserves dependable, safe care. I want to create a supportive environment where parents can feel confident in their childcare choices, knowing their children are in good hands. This commitment to safety and support is what drives me and our entire team every day.
